100 Years Ago, for the fourth week of September 1922, from the pages of the Greeley Tribune-Republican newspaper:


•Two candidates for Governor of Colorado, Republican Benjamin Griffith and Democrat William Sweet, will debate before the Greeley Chamber of Commerce next month. The date of the debate isn't known yet.

•When he saw two men stealing chickens from his neighbor's hen house last night, he took some shorts at them. He thinks he hit one man because he heard him swear. They got away with 10 chickens. A block away, the 10 ded chickens were found in a bag.

•Two Loveland men, both 27 years old, are in the Weld County Jail, charged with the theft of 18 sacks of potatoes from a local farm. The sheriff is also in charge of the men's pickup truck, which has a tent set up in the back. The sheriff said it will make an excellent campaign wagon for himself and other candidates.

•Remember that the opportunity of a lifetime must be grasped during the lifetime of the opportunity.

•M. Peterson, known as Greeley's "Christman Tree" candidate for mayor, will not run this year. It will be the first time in many years that he has not run for the mayoral office. However, he promised that by the end of the election, all of the Republicans will lose their local and state offices.

•The Wall Street Journal in New York announced this week that Henry Ford is the richest man in the world. He estate is valued at $2 billion, double the wealth of John D. Rockefeller.

•130 boys and girls participated in the Dandelion Contest this year. They were assigned lawns which they had to keep clear of dandelions all summer. Wendell Coon won the contest for the cleanest lawn. He won a new suit from the Greeley Dry Goods Company.
