6 Great Black Americans: This is How to Peacefully Demonstrate (Primetime 1963)
I ran across this interview of 6 black men that included then President of the NAACP Roy Wilkins, Dr Martin L. King, head of SCLC, and other leaders of civil rights organizations of the 1960's.
It's approximately 30 minutes long, but it won't seem so watching. My eyes teared up several times watching it. How eloquent, articulate, and confident are these amazing men all of whom made historical strides in the field of civil rights. No hate speech, no talks or violent insurrection or condemnation of white people; rather a welcoming of fellow Americans to join them. I was, and still so proud of them.
My emotions are a little all over the place, but in a good way. I hope y'all will watch this, and reflect on what these men, and the whites that supported them accomplished.
These men (and the women that joined them in the struggle), went about getting our government to right the wrongs against a segment of American citizens the proper way. This is the America I grew up in.
