Ive listened to Voddie Baucham off and on for years.
Many years ago he lead a big movement called "Family Church". He was a big advocate to bring the kids and youth back into the regular services. At that time, his church didn't have a youth or childrens ministry but family ministry. He taught about cutting out all the events and youth activities.
He got a lot of flack and bad press but had a lot of followers too. His daughter and son in law had disagreements with him on leadership and theology.
He is a strong leader. Either you like him or you don't.

It's amazing to me that one can be anointed and gifted to teach or preach, but don't believe the Bible in other areas. I really don't get that.

For a short while years ago, I believed that. But when I realized how disruptive children are in service, and young parents wouldn't correct them, I quickly changed my mind.

When I was a child, we'd better sit still and be quiet in Church or else! Kids need to be in separate services since their parents won't correct them. It's very irritating and distracting to have them in regular service. I've given plenty of "looks" to mothers with loud, talkative kids in Church, only to be ignored like they don't see what their little munchkins are doing.

If only I had a dollar for every time I carried one our munchkins out of a service rather than have them distract from the ministry going on.

Most people don't believe in that. Sadly, many parents don't mind their kids disrupting other people and don't even think twice about it. We had a pastor that would just stop preaching and wait. He would half way apologize stating he would lose his train of thought but he wouldn't go on until the child quieted or the parent took them out. Believe it or not, a lot of people appreciated it.

Yes, he is a cessationist. He's also a Calvinist.

The Shepherd's Conference is a John MacArthur event, I believe. If it's not sponsored by his church, it's definitely supported by his church. You can Google it. Voddie is a popular speaker at home-schooling conferences.

How unfortunate. How is it that they can read John 14:12-14 and not believe it?

I mean, even an unbeliever can understand. I love the stories of the Centurion and Cornelius. Gentiles without Covenant, yet no problem believing God.

I never knew much about him except that he was a conservative Christian. I would listen to short clips of him dealing with conservative values. But a couple of years ago a couple who used to come to our church listened to a whole sermon by him and asked me to evaluate it. In the sermon he emphasized the Calvinistic view of predestination (God ordained some to be saved and "passed over others" which leads to their damnation). A little more checking showed his "John MacArthur" type cesationism.
