    The power of his glory

    Col 1:11 strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy;

    The Norwegian translation reads a bit differently and renders glory as a noun rather than as an adjective. I checked the literal Greek and glory is indeed a noun and not an adjective. It is doxa and means glory, weight, honor. 8 of the roughly 40 translations listed on www.biblestudytools.net render the verse the same way, most of the others are likely to rely on the KJV which translates the word interpretatively. For instance :

    Col 1:11 in all might being made mighty according to the power of His glory, to all endurance and long-suffering with joy.

    People have speculated in all kinds of sources for God's power, including quantuum mechanics, frequencies, physical forces or particles not yet discovered. The truth is that the origin of God's power is something supernatural, something that is tied to the being or substance of God itself. That is not something that scientists or men in general can harness, subdue, explain or contain. God's power is tied to the weight of the substance of his being, his honor or glory. It is tied to who he is, his character. God is light, God is love, God is a living, consuming fire. All these things describe his character, his glory, his honor, his substance and therefore the source of his power. As Sid Roth would have said - it is supernatural !

    Though I understand your small stab at the power hungry, I don't think you can divide the word into two in this particular verse, longsuffering is related to patience and is defined by Strong's as :

    1. patience, endurance, constancy, steadfastness, perseverance
    2. patience, forbearance, longsuffering, slowness in avenging wrongs

    There is no discussion on persecution in Colossians 1.

    1 Cor 11:31 For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged.
    32 But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.

    James 4:6 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says:
    “God resists the proud,
    But gives grace to the humble.”
    7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

    The context of 1 Cor 11:31-32 is protection from sickness and premature death. In James 4:6-7 it is more general in terms of whatever the devil tries to do. I think this includes persecution to some degree, God is more willing to protect us from persecution or to bring us safely through it as was the case with Paul though he suffered temporarily during some of it. If we humble ourselves and judge ourselves and bring ourselves under his mighty hand. Some times Christians are persecuted more severely because they aren't under God's full protection, for various reasons. It could be unbelief, secret sin, not listening to his (protective) instructions etc. In the Western world we are currently more likely to get sick or die prematurely than be heavily persecuted as a result of not walking fully under God's protection. Does this mean that some of the Christians in the third world who are persecuted were not meant to be persecuted or that heavily ? Yes. Does it mean that I can judge any of them in particular as not walking under God's full protection ? Absolutely not. Some times they have done nothing wrong and it still happens. But the picture is complicated and we shouldn't look for and embrace persecution as if it were some sort of spiritual accolade.
