However, keeping the commandments of Jesus are all about loving Him, not about salvation. Handling rattlesnakes is more about going to see Him sooner than required, not about loving him. I'm not sure how loving tasty bacon works on the loving Christ scale. And that's why I opened this topic. So far I haven't seen a clear answer but lots of excuses for loving bacon. Is there a Bible scholar in the house?

Paul knew a thing or two .. told this to Timothy

1 Timothy 1:9 knowing this: that the law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and for sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,

We see a little further along in the letter to Timothy what a self righteous attitude towards the law can result in.

1 Timothy 18-19 Timothy, my son, I am giving you this command in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by recalling them you may fight the battle well, holding on to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to the faith.

I have a clear conscience about bacon. If one is weak in faith and can't eat it, so be it.

When I have a fouled conscience after a clam bake, I'll sometimes do a burnt offering. Brisket, of course.
