Large rally crowds are a measure of depth of support, not breadth of support.
To give an example: In Taiwan there was a candidate who drew enormous rally crowds, had cult-like fervor of support. Yet in January, he lost the presidential election in a landslide.
It's not a good indicator of who is going to win.
