God hates abuse more than divorce !

FROM A CT ARTICLE- When a pastor insists that divorce is a nonstarter for Christians, he limits the options of a vulnerable woman in a way neither Jesus nor Paul did. Simply because he wishes every broken marriage would result in reconciliation does not give him the right to strong-arm women, using his spiritual authority effectively to make the decision for her. It is a valiant, humbling display of gospel love when a woman chooses to fight for her marriage despite her husband's sexual immorality, abuse, or abandonment. However, that is a choice she alone must make. And when there are biblical grounds for divorce, it is pastoral malpractice to make a woman feel guilty for choosing to depart a broken marriage covenant. God Hates Abuse |

I have seen Pastors ruin lives because of their Pharisaical stand that guilted the woman into staying in an abusive marriage. One lady went to another Pastor who finally freed her from guilt and shame. None of it was her fault. I really have a hard time trusting any Pastor after seeing lives ruined with bad unscriptural counsel. CT quote "The primary message an abused woman should hear from a minister of Christ is that the Lord is the protector of the weak. He is our Boaz, the gentle, kind, and strong Redeemer who spreads his wing of protection over us (Ruth 2:12). Like Naomi spoke to Ruth, the voice of the church should unequivocally call a vulnerable woman to the safety of Jesus Christ: "It is good, my daughter, that you go out with his young women, lest in another field you be assaulted" (Ruth 2:22, ESV). We make that safety tangible by surrounding a victim with advocates, counselors, and resources to help her make the difficult choices that lay ahead."

    Good Point ..

I would add though that sometimes its the man that's been abused or mistreated.

I have a dear friend who stayed in a mentally abusive marriage for many years. Her and her husband were even going to counselling. She was also counselling separately with our pastors. She finally left him this past fall. It was very painful. He lied to her for many years. During their engagement he came to church and pretended that he was going to be a part of our church, but as soon as they got married he came only a handful of times over the last decade. Many of us saw/discerned his charade during their engagement period, and I know she was warned off of him. I love my friend dearly despite all this. She is now on her own, sleeping better than she has in years, and putting her life back together. I'm thankful for supportive church leadership!

But on the other end of the spectrum is another church friend. Her husband was also downright verbally abusive to her. And last year they had such a breakthrough that only the Spirit can do - their marriage is restored after 30 years of abuse and dysfunction! Praise Jesus!

Our son is in a very abusive relationship. She's a narcissist and t's devastating to watch. They've been together for almost 11 years. One child.

Yep. Men just "man up" and try to deal with it but some women can be ferocious, even dangerous.
