But here's the thing ... when you have a gun person on set (I assume the producers hired someone to manage the guns and blanks or whatever), that person is ensuring that the gun is empty, or filled with blanks - not real bullets.
When we shoot at the range, whenever we handle guns we always always ALWAYS check that the gun is empty, not loaded, and we show the people with us that the gun is unloaded. It takes time, and it seems like a huge deal, because it is. Why wasn't this done in that situation is beyond me. To me, that person or company that was in charge of the guns, etc. should be held culpable as well.
