Love it! Minnesota and Wisconsin are the only two states as good or better than Michigan. I haven't yet preached but having a good time linking up with many new friends and being a witness.

So is there like a big captive crowd there fishing together that can't get away if one decides to do it? lol.

It's a special comraderie being out on the ice. Everybody is generally happy and they don't mind when someone strolls over and talks. A few weeks back I wanted to check on my favorite lake and early ice a shanty was 200some yards out. I got out of my truck and walked out to them. First thing I said was "I'm not the DNR!"

Everybody out there wants to know what everybody else is catching, bait used and how deep.

I rarely target perch but when the big ones move in and keep eating the bait...ice 'em!

I may be fishing other lakes next, like the big one down the street. Ice is good and there are big lake trout out there.

Fished my favorite little lake tonight. Had fish moving through so I stayed there and caught 3 northern pike and lost 2 bigger ones. Had something playing with the camera bulb but never did see what it was.

This was my first view when setting up, perch all over the place. Also saw largemouth bass and bluegill swim by.

Epic night pike fishing. Landed 5 and couldn't hook up on the 2 bigger ones. This one I let run with the bait and it circled back and got caught up in the camera cord

Last night I walked off the ice feeling very excited for the upcoming spring boating season. Had another very active night with the pike so I caught a pesky perch and sent it down the hole as pike and (hopefully) muskie bait. Fishing a weedbed has it's moments. The perch was fluttering around and got tangled in a weed stalk. I didn't dare yank up the perch and clear the weed because a very curious largemouth bass was looking like it might eat the bait perch. Then, a large pike slowly circled but was uninterested. Finally cleared the perch tanglement and settled in for the last half hour of daylight fishing.

Then there was nothing for several minutes. Usually when this happens is because a larger predator is lurking. Then I saw it. Off in the distance I could see a muskie silhouette. Unmistakeable. Probably 30+", a smaller one but it would not come in. Pike and muskie are cousins of the Esox genus but I could see the unmistakeable tailfin distinction. It prowled up higher in the water column where it was silhouetted against the contrasting available light from the ice. What a sight. Made my entire winter fishing this little 60ac lake worthwhile.

Here is a quick pic of the bass and harnessed perch baitfish...
