I subscribed to his channel sometime back. Glad to have seen him get back on the bench with the 50cal. I mean, of all rounds to have a blowup with? Wow

A hot round means for whatever reason that load was loaded beyond what the "normal" 50cal were. What made it hot is speculation because of several factors. Too much powder for the weight of the bullet is a straight up guess due to the fact the military used several types of bullets for several applications (very versatile gun the ma duece M2). The machine loading the bullet could have had a load setting for another round. As a handloader it is an important fact that heavy bullets for the cartridge will require less powder. If you switch bullets for the cartridge, you will have to compare notes on the powder load. If not, you get a light "squib" load or a dangerously "hot" load that can blow up a receiver.
That round was never intended for use in a sport rifle using factory mil-spec rounds from WWII. He should have shot only using modern handloads. In wartime, all that mattered was the M2 heavy machine gun could withstand such abuses.

I liked that his dad prayed with him when it happened, and that he gives glory to God that he is even alive. What a horrible accident!

Good people. Such a miracle he survived. Surely the angels were present to help.
