100 Years Ago: Imported meats less than impressive – Greeley Tribune

100 Years Ago, for the first week of August 1921, from the pages of the Greeley Tribune-Republican newspaper:

The two meat imports from China to the United States have arrived here. One is ham, which has a peculiar odor are small and of poor quality. The other is sausage, which is the size of a thin frankfurter, also has a bad odor and terrible taste. The Chinese consider these meats delicacies.

Stores in the downtown area of Bozeman, Mont. closed for an afternoon this week because of an influx of swarming bees. It seems several hives lost their queens and they swarmed find a new location for a hive. They chose Bozeman and filled the downtown area until they were chased to a park by a city employee waving a shovel.

Six prominent Greeley people barely escaped death Sunday when their touring car ran off the road near Glen Haven and turned turtle. Driver F.J. Allnutt and his father-in-law, Capt. Thomas Macy, were trapped under the auto and received injuries. The 86-year-old Macy was the most seriously injured, but doctors say he will recover.

The Colorado Traffic Rangers filed several traffic complaints with the courts. They included three men cited for not dimming their auto lights when passing other autos. One man was fined $15 for allowing his son, who is under 15, to drive his auto. Two other men were arrested for horse theft. They stole four horses from a Fort Lupton ranch.

EDITORIAL: If this year's Weld County Fair was giving awards for good roads, the Road Overseer for the Nunn district would win all of the championships. The Nunn roads are the best in the county.

Seventeen Catholic Sisters took a trip to Estes Park for Church Sunday. They all rode in the back of a large motored truck.

Hardware salesman S.S. Worrell just returned from a month-long camping vacation across the western states, and told the city that Greeley's in-town campsites are actually a "Bunco game" because the sites are advertised but aren't really campsites, compared to other cities.

Two Greeley men, fishing along the Poudre River 11 years ago, had a can of corn that they left beside the road. Just last week, they found the can of corn again and brought it to the Tribune office. The Tribune people found that the can was old and rusty, but the corn inside was sweet and clean.

    — 100 Years Ago is taken from the original pages of the Greeley Tribune, the Weld County Republican, and when they merged, the Greeley Tribune-Republican.

This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity (futility) of their mind, having the understanding darkened...
    (Ephesians 4:17-18)

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly...

China's meat exports are none the better after 100 years and ample refrigeration.

But then, my brother and I are in the bulk meat distribution business.
