Franklin Graham Defends Hobby Lobby After Atheists Attack 'One Nation Under God' Ad

Evangelist Franklin Graham is defending Hobby Lobby after the Christian owned-company came under fire from atheists and LGBTQ activists for a Fourth of July ad.

The arts and crafts store ran full-page ads in a number of newspapers around the country on Independence Day promoting the idea that this is one nation under God.

"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord," Hobby Lobby wrote, quoting the Bible verse, Psalm 33:12.

Social media exploded Sunday, accusing Hobby Lobby of unconstitutionally mixing God and Government as well as promoting "propaganda."

And the secular legal organization Freedom from Religion Foundation made an entire website to attack the Christian-owned company.

"In Hobby Lobby We DON'T Trust," FFRF wrote on its site with a series of quotes included in the ad, claiming to refute them.

An LGBTQ blog, "Joe My God" put a headline out titled, "Hobby Lobby Goes Full Dominionist in July 4th Ad."

Defending Hobby Lobby, Franklin Graham praised the Green family for their strong public stand for the Word of God and biblical values.

"I hope this exposure for their ads, even though it was intended for harm, will actually allow even more people to read the message and appreciate what Hobby Lobby's owners, the Green family stand for," Graham wrote in a Facebook post. "I thank God for the Green family, their Christian-run business, and their strong public stand for the Word of God and biblical values."

National radio host and best-selling author Todd Starnes said Graham pointed out those offended by the ad are enemies of God's Word.

"There are those in places of power who are fighting to have God's word removed from the public marketplace," the Todd Starnes Show host said in his daily commentary Wednesday. "Thank goodness there are companies like Hobby Lobby that are willing to stand in the gap – not only defending religious liberty – but promoting religious liberty."

Starnes concluded: "Whether the atheists like it or not – we are indeed one nation under God."
