100 Years Ago: Thief steals cars to get to train station; Theater sets age limit for some films – Greeley Tribune

100 Years Ago, for the first week of July 1921 from the pages of the Greeley Tribune-Republican newspaper:

Someone is stealing Ford motorcars, apparently to save them from walking to La Salle, according to Sheriff Hall. Three Fords have been stolen this week from Greeley, Fort Collins and Cheyenne, Wyo. All three were found the next day, parked near the train station in La Salle. "Someone wants to catch a train in La Salle, and they think it's easier to steal a car than walk to the station," the sheriff said.

Because of the fall in farm produce prices, the Mexican laborers who normally come to Weld County to work, will not be coming. The fall in prices means the pay to laborers will be lower, so they are staying in Mexico, according to government officials. They are trying to find enough local laborers to handle the crops.

A moonshiner in Denver got away from police because the officers chasing him were stopped by another police car, those officers thinking the undercover police car had thieves in it. The chase started when the undercover officers saw a car drive past with a 10-gallon jug of moonshine in it. They chased the car, but another police car chased after them, thinking they were thieves. Gunshots were fired by the second police car and the first one stopped. No one was injured, but the moonshiner got away.

On the 4th of July, many of the planned celebrations were cancelled because of a day-long rain. It started early in the morning and went through the afternoon. At the State Teacher's College here, there was a patriotic speaker scheduled, but the student early this week voted to cancel the speech. Most of the students went to Estes Park for the day.

Because many of the moving pictures released lately should not be seen by children, local theaters have considered censoring some of the films. However, they just changed their policy, so the adult films will have age limits. For those pictures, no children under the age of 18 will be allowed in the theaters in Greeley.

A tourist rom Cheyenne wrote a letter to the Tribune, complaining about the city's campgrounds. He said a dozen cars were parked at the ugly campgrounds, and even through Greeley is a pretty town, it was the "bummest" of all campgrounds.

The Colorado Highway Department announced today that they will be putting road signs on highways in this area. It will mean that drivers will know what roads they are on, and they might not get lost as easily.

This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity (futility) of their mind, having the understanding darkened...
    (Ephesians 4:17-18)

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly...
    (Psalm 1)
