Tithing is not a tradition but it is biblical. Jesus Himself approved of it and said it was good. It is a choice. Do you want to follow Jesus and His approved Words to us. Jesus speaks, and it contains eternal truths.

So then, you are saying that it is o.k. to make doctrine out of 1/2 of a single verse? Do you also pay a tithe of mint and anise and cummin? You have been asked numerous times to use scripture and lay this doctrine out and make an honest case for it. But all that you can come up with is one half of a single scripture taken out of context to make your case with.
Many well intentioned men have gone off the rails with much more scripture to back up their false doctrines, and yet, here is brother Nikos clinging on to a part of a single verse that was never even uttered to the NT church. Nor was it repeated by the apostles while instructing the church. I can just picture Phillip running after that chariot in the desert: "Oh wait, I forgot to tell you about tithing!"

What exactly was Jesus saying in Mathew 23:23? "Woe to you, scribes and pharisees, hypocrites! For you obey the letter of the law that tells you to tithe of everything you have, and yet totally neglect the very heart of that same law: Justice and Mercy and Faith. These you should have observed as well as observing the former."

Should we take a portion of scripture where Jesus was rebuking the scribes and pharisees and make a NT church doctrine out of it?

If we should then we should pay 7/30 as the law prescribes and not 1/10. The 1/10 total tithing burden does not exist in the Bible.

If I was a farmer and still in the bartering system, yes. As it is I can sell my maters and give the money...

If they should pay tithes of garden herbs then surely they should also pay the full tithing burden rather than withhold 4/7 by paying only one tithe. Which is more important, paying in full instead of a mere 3/7 or paying of garden herbs ?

Jesus wan't rebuking anyone. He was telling the people that they were doing a good thing to tithe. However, he was giving a word of correction concerning priorities. the "weightier matters".

Just a few words from the Master, Jesus, is better than pages of words from anyone else.

Jesus was approving tithing that began before the law. 1/10th or a tithe.

    Have a good day!

If you can honestly say that Jesus wasn't rebuking anyone in that very passage of scripture, then it is probably time for you to maybe take a READING COMPREHENSION class?

According to Nikos, Jesus was referring to pre-law practices when discussing the law with a Pharisee.

You are very insulting and self centered to think that only you can interpret the Scriptures. You need a lesson in humility.
I did not say that Jesus was not rebuking in the passage. Although I prefer to think that he was training rather than rebuking.
However in the Words of the scripture we are focusing on where Jesus says that tithing is good to do, it is not a rebuke but a complimentary statement. He is saying that tithing is good and that is not a rebuke.

Jesus told the Pharisee to tithe according to the law.

In verses 1-3, Jesus tells his disciples to keep the entire law.

By prescribing the former as mandatory for Christians you are certainly prescribing the latter at the same time.

Mat 23:1 Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples:
2 “The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat.
3 So you must be careful to do everything they tell you"

Technically there is more grounds for applying verses 1-3 to Christians since he is addressing his disciples there and not just some Pharisee.
