Pentecali, I, too, remember the California falling into the ocean. Most big time preachers during that time were saying the same thing. It didn't happen. I think it was promoted by fear and having something to make exciting. LOL I remember in 1988, a man (I don't remember who) said the Lord would come back by that year and that has been 33 years. It probably sounded good at the time because we were all wanting the Lord to hurry up and come. Even just in 1999, preachers were preaching about all that would happen as the year struck 2000 but now it hasn't come true. It sold books and I am sure tapes and all kinds of stuff. Fear does sell - seen that many times.
I believe in the prophetic and not the pathetic. I am just very careful who I listen to. I can remember just a few years ago probably 8 - 10 yrs ago, a preacher was holding revivals and seemed to be going strong. He was preaching a revival in Florida. Preachers were prophesying over him and how good he was doing and really put him up on a pedestal. He was laying on the floor as they spoke over him. Well, in a just a short time, he was divorcing his wife, going to marry his girlfriend - had been drinking and sleeping around. He stepped down temporarily to divorce his wife and marry his girlfriend and then step back into ministry - a very short period of time - a couple of months - I don't remember. He supposed to have taken correction from other ministers but it was only after his marriage that he agreed to take correction. Just a coincidence seems like. I am all for redemption and restoration. Godly sorrow worketh repentance.
We are in the last days and deception has come. Jesus said many times, do not be deceived. I take what people with a grain of salt. If it comes to pass, it was God and if it didn't, it wasn't God. It seems like people want a "word" from the Lord and hang onto ministries that operate in calling people out and giving them a word. I do believe in it but we also have the Word of God and it will definitely lead us in the right direction.
Pentecali, I will hush for now and quit rambling. Good to see you on here. God bless. Heaven

Does Edgar Whisinant and book "88 reasons" ring a bell? People bought the books by the box and gave them away like tracts thinking they were warning people.

I'm glad you were able to. I had to FF some of it, the behaviour of the prophets that is as it was so embarrassing. Sadly not many people will even watch the first 2 mins of it which gives an insight into what it's about (and sadly one can't tell).
Anyway at the end he says "Regardless of what happens next, these Evangelicals have egg all over their faces. They named and claimed and prophesied and demanded and called down the power of the Almighty and things did not go their way". Says something about the validity of their theology that I think.
I'll tell you who he is later if no one else does. He's got a number of videos up and that one got about 30 times more views than normal.

I wasted money on that book. People should have learnt back then.

I think you're referring to Todd Bentley. The background you and I came from would have publicly rebuked him and sat his tail down long time ago. They didn't tolerate any foolishness. I have to bite my lip sometimes with this new church where anything goes.

Yes it was Bentley on the Lakeland revival. I haven't heard anything about him for quite a while. I never attended his services. Something about him just didn't "click" with me. I don't think I missed anything. LOL You are right, our churches would have set him down and stripped him of his license and made him show fruits of repentance. He would have had to sit under another Pastor for a couple of years. Thankful God does forgive and He is so merciful and loving. God bless you Pentecali
