Thread: Calvinist Tactics Exposed

I wasn't replying to any other of that previous theological gobbledy-gook that was posted

Not everything fits into some kind of theological box dreamt up by the minds of men.

I should have known better and just let it be.

Oh well. One can always hope.

    Back to bed for me.

    .
This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity (futility) of their mind, having the understanding darkened...
    (Ephesians 4:17-18)

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly...
    (Psalm 1)

    Enjoy your sleep.

True "Not everything fits into some kind of theological box", but who Christ died for is a basic foundational Biblical issue. The three options presented above send the Believer off in very different directions, so it behoves us to have a sound Biblical understanding of why we believe what we do with respect to it.

I think that talking to you must have been just like talking to the Pharisees, they were always straining at gnats while swallowing camels, and they also lacked any actual power in their lives.

...for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

And I'm sure they used LOTS of big words.

The Lord once spoke to my spirit and said...

"Contrary to to their claims, those promoting calvinism are actually caught up in and are engaging in a very subtle form of self-righteousness"

Hence your incessant "evangelism" of that doctrine.

    Pride is quite insidious.

If you had any real sense, you would get a clue and back off, for the sake of peace among the brethren.

But no, because calvinism is it's own idol, which supersedes everything, and must be bowed down to.

    Wash, rinse, repeat.

    I Corinthians 8:1-3
    (1) Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
    (2) And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.
    (3) But if any man love God, the same is known of him.

    Acts 4:13
Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

    Philippians 3:4-11
    (4) Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more:
    (5) Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;
    (6) Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.
    (7) But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.
    (8) Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
    (9) And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
    (10) That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;
    (11) If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

    I Corinthians 2:1-5
    (1) And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.
    (2) For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
    (3) And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.
    (4) And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
    (5) That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

    I Corinthians 2:12-14
    (12) Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
    (13) Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
    (14) But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity (futility) of their mind, having the understanding darkened...
    (Ephesians 4:17-18)

That is the thing about this type of communication.

It was not at all a dig. It was 8pm and you said you were going back to bed so, as sleep is important, I expressed my wish that your sleep was pleasant.

Yeah, we are in vastly different time zones. USA, Norway and Australia are as good as evenly distributed along the longitudinal axis. When two are awake the third one is sleeping.

A Pastor I once had said that if anyone said something like that to him his response was along the lines of (and I can't quote him 100% but this is close) "Well if God said that then it's the end of the discussion isn't it? I can't disagree with God".

So I'll change direction and simply ask this, how's your knowledge of The Five Solas that came out of the Reformation, especially the first, Sola Scriptura?

    FYI

    The Five Solas are:
Sola Scriptura ("Scripture alone"): The Bible alone is our highest authority.
Sola Fide ("faith alone"): We are saved through faith alone in Jesus Christ.
Sola Gratia ("grace alone"): We are saved by the grace of God alone.
Solus Christus ("Christ alone"): Jesus Christ alone is our Lord, Savior, and King.
Soli Deo Gloria ("to the glory of God alone"): We live for the glory of God alone.

    More than that:

The Scriptures are our ultimate and trustworthy authority for faith and practice. This doesn't mean that the Bible is the only place where truth is found, but it does mean that everything else we learn about God and his world, and all other authorities, should be interpreted in light of Scripture. The Bible gives us everything we need for our theology.

People seem to have not learnt that everything we learn about God and his world should be interpreted in light of Scripture

    I Corinthians 4:3-8 (AMP)

    (3) But [as for me personally] it matters very little to me that I should be put on trial by you [on this point], and that you or any other human tribunal should investigate and question and cross-question me. I do not even put myself on trial and judge myself.
    (4) I am not conscious of anything against myself, and I feel blameless; but I am not vindicated and acquitted before God on that account. It is the Lord [Himself] Who examines and judges me.
    (5) So do not make any hasty or premature judgments before the time when the Lord comes [again], for He will both bring to light the secret things that are [now hidden] in darkness and disclose and expose the [secret] aims (motives and purposes) of hearts. Then every man will receive his [due] commendation from God.
    (6) Now I have applied all this [about parties and factions] to myself and Apollos for your sakes, brethren, so that from what I have said of us [as illustrations], you may learn [to think of men in accordance with Scripture and] not to go beyond that which is written, that none of you may be puffed up and inflated with pride and boast in favor of one [minister and teacher] against another.
    (7) For who separates you from the others [as a faction leader]? [Who makes you superior and sets you apart from another, giving you the preeminence?] What have you that was not given to you? If then you received it [from someone], why do you boast as if you had not received [but had gained it by your own efforts]?
    (8) [You behave as if] you are already filled and think you have enough [you are full and content, feeling no need of anything more]! Already you have become rich [in spiritual gifts and graces]! [Without any counsel or instruction from us, in your conceit], you have ascended your thrones and come into your kingdom without including us! And would that it were true and that you did reign, so that we might be sharing the kingdom with you!

This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity (futility) of their mind, having the understanding darkened...

    1 Corinthians 4:1-11 (AMP)

    (1) So then, let us [who minister] be regarded as servants of Christ and stewards (trustees, administrators) of the mysteries of God [that He chooses to reveal].
    (2) In this case, moreover, it is required [as essential and demanded] of stewards that one be found faithful and trustworthy.

And would that it were true and that you did reign, so that we might be sharing the kingdom with you!
    (9) For, I think, God has exhibited us apostles at the end of the line, like men sentenced to death [and paraded as prisoners in a procession], because we have become a spectacle to the world [a show in the world's amphitheatre], both to angels and to men.
    (10) We are [regarded as] fools for Christ, but you are so wise in Christ; we are weak, but you are strong; you are highly esteemed, but we are dishonored
    (11) To this present hour we are both hungry and thirsty; we are continually poorly dressed, and we are roughly treated, and wander homeless.
    (12) We work [for our living], working hard with our own hands. When we are reviled and verbally abused, we bless. When we are persecuted, we take it patiently and endure.
    (13) When we are slandered, we try to be conciliatory and answer softly. We have become like the scum of the world, the dregs of all things, even until now.

I'm not sure what part of what Paul wrote on the cost of being an Apostle is meant to mean.
