The world is accustomed to rearranging themselves inwardly so they can better cope with external demands according to own power. Then they basically retain the same traits deep down and those tend to come out in a different context where they aren't met with demands to behave properly. In the world of conservative Muslims this can be very difficult, some times it happens only inside their minds or in some weird relation to others who are likeminded. A transformation that erases or reworks a trait from depth is very demanding on the flesh, it implies its total crucifixion.

That's what inner healing does. It's the process of sanctification, or transformation. Healing what keeps us from walking fully in victory. Restoring us to our pre-life-trauma selves, only better because Jesus is actively involved. I've seen some amazing results over the years with the combination of inner healing and deliverance. But even just inner healing can bring people great freedom.

The problem is not sanctification or deliverance. They work just as God promised. But the problem is stubborn people who refuse to look at themselves through the Word. They instead tend to see themselves through their peers or the popular culture of the Church. There is no freedom outside of Christ but the Devil will attack you and if you are not fully yielded to the Holy Spirit you will battle against things in your life that has you bound. You cannot win the battle until you are willing to lay everything, and I mean everything, at the foot of the Cross and allow the Blood of Jesus cleanse you. People who drink and flirt like the world will never be what God intended them to be. But these people we are speaking of don't seem to want to be all God wants them be. They are satisfied with these pesky sins and instead of deliverance, they continue on until they actually enjoy them. Yes, they are touchy and sensitive about it.
We need a revival of Holiness! The church needs a cleansing. Instead of eliminating altars from our churches we need more of them. Some of us need to stop dancing and get on our knees and seek the Lord until we are more like Him. There is a need for an attitude check. There is a need to rid ourselves of the love of the world. These people are content in their sinning and have no desire to be like Jesus. If they do that desire is way down the list of priorities.
O God, sober us up and wake us up.

Many people just aren't taught how to get there, to that place of total repentance and laying it down. They believe the lies of the enemy that no one will understand, that they will always be like this. They get bound in shame and guilt. They need to be told, taught how to get there! How to push through.

Also, just from my own experience in my church with our pastor who took us into seeker friendly, many are fed milk week after week after week. People PERISH for lack of knowledge.

I agree, though, that as they are taught, they need to be given the opportunity to repent, to confess their sins one to another. To get on their faces before the Lord and turn their will over to His will.

Many people these days are happy in seeker friendly churches.

Many are hungering and thirsting after righteousness. The shall be satisfied.

What is your opinion on counseling? Do you see it as beneficial?

I ask because I am considering seeing a counselor....my trust issues (more at 'lack' of trust) are so deeply embedded within me I wonder if they'll ever go away. I thought I had overcome them and had to an extent until something happened that shook me and showed me that the issue is still very much rooted.

I think of inner healing more in relation to hurts that one has been exposed to innocently rather than character traits that one has developed by living according to the standards of the world which need sanctification. I guess there is some overlap. I needed a lot of inner healing after a traumatic experience with church leadership 20 years ago, to the point where it felt like the Holy Spirit blasted me with dynamite nonstop for half an hour or so. I was alone and out in the woods when that happened. But I wouldn't say that that hurt had made me less sanctified than I was before what caused the hurt, it wasn't a matter of repenting or of undoing a conformation to the standards of this world.

Or they don't want to do the WORK of taking the thoughts of their minds captive...

This is true....but I don't think that will be an excuse for them/us. God gave each of us all we need, His Spirit and His word...
So the heart that wants to know truth will find it no matter what...God led me in and out of several denominations and movements...to glean and leave the rest...I believe many are doing that...But a caveat is that it was 15 years after my salvation that I discovered the WIND of the Spirit..He was there under me all the time but once I recognized Him that journey went to a whole new level..
