And then have that memory linked to Christmas every year.

I hate suicide - losing hope is horrible.

We just had a 'member' commit suicide about a week ago. Left a wife and 2 kids. It's sad you can't tell when this is going to happen. Many times they're just acting totally normal.

Right. I am so mindful that Christmas can be the worst time of year for so many folks.

The believer is born again unto a living hope and the situation otherwise doesn't affect that. Still some reason that it's better to be with the Lord than to suffer here in the flesh. Who it was that lost hope and who it was that abandoned it willfully can be difficult to tell.

Yes, I could imagine a suicidal funeral would be difficult to officiate. Not sure if their son was a believer, but never the less this was a tragic situation.
Anyone who says a minister of the gospel has an easy job is gravely mistaken.
If you put God First, you have Him at Last.

God has used me in intercession to stop a couple of suicides. It's very strange because that same feeling of hopelessness they were having came on me. I knew it well because I was suicidal for many years myself. One time I saw a rope hanging in mid-air and "knew" it was someone who was going to go out into the woods and hang himself. I enlisted another person from church to join me in praying for this unknown person, The next week she told me a guy who attended our church sometimes went to a Wal-Mart and picked up a rope and started to walk out of the store. Security stopped him and he told them he was planning to go to the woods and hang himself. I really need to get back to intercession like this. It is so misunderstood and much needed today. So much can be changed or stopped when we tune in to God and pray.

I remember parking my car besides a random car in the middle of nowhere in one of the Baltic countries in 2002. A young man sat alone in the other car and I knew he was contemplating on suicide. I sat there for perhaps half an hour praying without interacting with him in any way, then the Holy Spirit told me that I could leave. I believe that saved his life.
