Thread: Dear White People....

  1. #11
As we usually do with Bible stories we cast ourselves in the role of Jesus but really white people in the U.S. are the Romans in this story. We are the crucifiers not the crucified, the defenders of brutal empire who perhaps feel a little guilty at the scene of yet another lynching taking place in our name.
This is inaccurate. This was an accidental shooting, not a lynching. She was wrong to shoot him, but it was not a premeditated act, nor was it a lynching, which is why it got the minimal sentence of 10 years.

All of you chomping at the bit to inform me that Jesus's crucifixion/lynching was "not political" because he was "dying for our sins" need to hold off until you read some of my upcoming posts about the racist roots of Anselmian substitutionary atonement theory. All of you who likewise want to blame "the Jews" need a lesson in the history of Christian anti-Semitism. All of you who similarly want to say "we are all equally guilty as sinners regardless of race" need to read a history book. Have I covered all the loopholes? If not I will get back to them. Today we are talking history.
Jesus dying for our sins is as much a part of the historical record as any other part of Jesus' life. You cannot separate the two. Jesus in the Bible IS the Jesus of history.

So Jesus has been persecuted by Romans all of his life for preaching good news for the impoverished and oppressed people of Rome now hangs on one of thousands of crosses (which Dr. James Cone rightly identified as lynching trees) designed to support Roman supremacy.
Wrong. Jesus was never persecuted by the Romans for preaching the Gospel. There is nothing in the historical/biblical record that supports that claim.

Notice that in every one of the passion narratives he has very little to say to his oppressors. At this point he is done talking to them. Notice also that Jesus does not forgive them. He asks God to do so. Notice furthermore that he essentially writes them off as ignorant "for they know not what they do."
She is simply wrong. Jesus DID forgive those who crucified, hence the prayer He made to the Father. He forgave them and asked the Father to do so, as well. He didn't write them off as ignorant. They didn't understand the part they were playing in redemption and they did not know and understand the significance of His crucifixion.

She should not call herself a "theologian." She is nothing of the sort. I wonder if she even believes in the deity of Jesus.

Pastor Jamal Bryant has weighed in. He pastors one of the biggest black churches in America, New Birth in Atlanta (formally Eddie Long's).

I think he might be a political activist too. I'm not totally sure.

    Any thoughts on his comments?

    I'm conflicted...

On the one hand, I understand the Brother of the Victim releasing forgiveness - As hard as it probably was, it's certainly the "Christ-like" thing to do, BUT...

It seems rather unprofessional and intriguing for the Judge to behave in that manner - Especially in the public and open Courtroom - She could have done her hugging and bible gifting "in chambers" IMHO - It appears to validate the short sentencing and minimize the crime - I have to wonder (again) if she does that with the "boys from the hood also?"

Also, I wonder if the Cop/Baliff who showed kindness to the Perp knew her from the police force, and/or developed a close "bond" with her, during the course of her imprisonment and the trial, and she simply wanted to demonstrate "Christian Compassion" as well?

While it certainly appears to be a case of "Uncle Tom's Cabin" on steroids, it could also be a mighty move of God

BUT, another part of me also wonders, as others have stated, if that much compassion would have been shown to a young, Black "thug" who had shot and killed an innocent, White woman "accidentally?"

IMO that's irrelevant who was black and who was white. We're to obey the scriptures, not try to get our pound of flesh because it possibly would have been different if the colors had been switched, etc. It's certainly irrelevant to whether a Christian will actually forgive or not, regardless of what color we are. We will never know though, because different people would have been involved. Obviously I can come up with as many situations where I could say, "If that would have been a white person instead of a black person the white would have been 'crucified'.

I totally disagree with Jamal Bryant or any other person stating that angle. If someone repents, Jesus forgives period. As far as the black man forgiving her, the Bible requires it. Like somebody said, "bitterness and unforgiveness is like taking poison and expecting the other person to die." He did that for HIS benefit. He has to keep his heart right regardless.

I could also say this about Jamal. If she had been a black cop, and the person she killed white, and she got 10 years, he would have been saying, "If that officer was white she would have served no jail time!" No doubt in my mind that's what he and others would have said. It's just hypocritical and a double standard any way you look at it. Some people just can't get past race no matter what, white or black.

One more thing, whether it would have been a black cop or white cop, I would disagree with 10 years in jail for something if it was totally an accident. Intent is everything in law.

Supposedly she parked her car on the 4th floor but she lived on the 3rd so she mistook his unit for hers. The police reportedly found marijuana in his apartment, which to me is irrelevant because it was HIS APARTMENT! They should have been checking her for drugs because she's the one who didn't know where she was. When the victim's brother said he didn't want her to go to jail I couldn't believe it. Even if you forgive her, you have to send a message to other people who are authorized to carry a gun that they have a huge responsibility to only use it in self defense. Shooting an unarmed man in his own apartment doesn't qualify. As for Rev. Carlo, no thank you. No white guilt here. I prefer to just stick with the facts of the case, which are disturbing enough.
Disagree, if indeed it was totally an accident. But even if one believes you have to 'send a message', 10 years is excessive for a total accident IMO. No matte what color they are.

Firstly what she did was terrible and totally reckless - I wonder how dumb you have to be to do that and she deserves major jail time

Pastor Jamal needs to find facts before making statements as his comments affect many.
It could be as simple as the judge and courtroom officer knew her as a policewoman and liked her but it is still inappropriate and unusual the way they both acted in a public courtroom.

Maybe they have done this sort of thing in the past with others or they saw a real broken contrite policewoman.

The christian brother hugging her was also unusual but there have been statements by many families of forgiveness towards murderers without the hugging

    ================================================== ==================================================
Many down here have followed this case as it involved a Aussie woman shot dead by a Black muslim cop
He had previous disciplinary problems and he acted recklessly and bizarrely by shooting her. He got 12 years

From what I read he was a time bomb waiting to go off as he seemed unstable from past actions

Black Muslims still found a way to make his sentencing racist

Mohamed Noor sentenced over Justine Ruszczyk Damond death

    Getting back to the OP

This white female minister thinks she can speak to all white people - that is impossible. White people are many and varied and you can't lump everyone together
The same applies to Blacks, Asians or Hispanics - you can't just speak to multiple millions as each person has different beliefs and ideals

The again I want to lump all left white female 'ministers' speaking to every white as cuckoo

Speaking of Jamal again, and his 'if this was a white person' in regards to the man that got shot, no doubt in my mind if somebody wrote and article called "Dear Black People..." he would call that letter racist as well as a slew of others.
