I just want to know when did it become a sin to not give people money for doing their job? I feel tipping has gotten a little over the top these days. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE to tip, and I tip well...
but I’ve gotten to the point of irritation when I go, for instance into the nail or hair salon. I’m expected to tip everyone that perform some minute service; from the manicurist, the pedicurist, the person who brings me water, the girl that waxes my eyebrows, the girl who washes my hair, the girl who styles my hair, to the person that gives me a design on my nail. It’s too much!!

Yes, I see that almost everywhere now. I sometimes tip when I order take out. But only when I feel led. I've cut down on eating in restaurants, and I regularly utilize the local beauty college for hair maintenance. On special occasions, I use my regular hair stylist, but I'm using my money for more important causes now. The days of giving to working folk are less these days.

I was a 15yr old heathen busboy that would do my best to avoid the elderly fundie couple as dear as they were, but did watch them tip our girls. One day they left the fake money tract. I didnt judge them as cheap christians, I judged their misguided bible thumping and letting it get in the way of their generosity.

The real shame is that restaurants don't pay wait staff a living wage, so tipping is what makes waiting tables lucrative, or necessary for living for many. My daughter also waited tables years ago, and she knew she had to hustle for the tip. She also got good at reading people and knew when the tip would be bad.
I personally loved traveling in Europe under the no tip system. A 10-15 Euro dinner was just that. No extra money expected. In fact, their receipts don't even have a tip/gratuity line. The waiter is expected to provide excellent service, period. Not for a tip, but because that's the expectation.
