Like Fuego said what do they mean by CP.
If its spending time being quiet, focusing on God and learning to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit then go for it.

There have been many times where I just sit and meditate on the Lord and don't say anything but to be in his presence.

I was just thinking about this the other day, what happened to the soaking craze 10yrs ago? Wasnt that similar? (Not that there is anything wrong with that)

I need to get back to that. I was really doing that a lot back around '10 and having some great times with the Lord.

This is going to take a while, but let me start with the CRN article, which strikes me as somewhat HH in its take.

"Seeks to empty the mind and enter an altered state of consciousness by:
repetition of a mantra;
focusing on one's breathing;
contemplating images or icons."

I object to the characterization of "empty the mind", "repetition of a mantra" as a universal descriptor.

For a more accurate and fair description of Contemplative Prayer in a Christian context, read:
The Lost Art of Practicing His Presence by [Goll, James W.]

This book makes it very clear the difference between biblically-based CP and New Age.

On another front, CP does have a wide acceptance as a "method" by Catholics, which some may not be comfortable with.

And other non-Chtistan groups can use a version of it for their theological target or deity. Therein lies the issue of wide acceptance and adaptation.

A lot of HHs are today's equivalents of the Sadducees. They pretend to be scribes but in reality they fit the Sadducees better in that they don't really believe in anything spiritual or in the power of God. The majority of the Sanhedrin, the council of priests that sentenced Jesus to death, were Sadducees.

CRN and others of that crowd try to hard to smear, malign and destroy a brother’s character in Christ. Saying “they” seek to empty their minds and enter an altered state of consciousness is totally ridiculous. I wonder if they have witnessed this “seeking” in practice anywhere.

In James Goll's book, the purpose of quieting our minds is to throw out the mental distractions (noise ) that hinder us hearing God. The HH crowd is so afraid that a demon might jump in that they would rather keep the noise.
