    Andy Stanley Again

He is heading off the deep end.

WASHINGTON – A mega-pastor of one of the largest “evangelical” churches in the U.S. is attacking the Old Testament again, this time insisting Jesus rendered the Ten Commandments null and void, issuing one new law “as a replacement for everything.”

Andy Stanley, pastor of the 34,000-member North Point Community Church in suburban Atlanta, who famously advised his flock to “unhitch” from the Old Testament in a sermon last spring, has now penned an article promoting his new book saying laws such as “Thou shalt have no other gods before me” and “Thou shalt not kill” are no longer relevant to Christians living in the New Covenant era.

"We who are Jews by birth and not Gentile ‘sinners’ know that a man is not justified by works of the Law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have believed in Christ Jesus, that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the Law, because by works of the Law no one will be justified." (Gal. 2:15:16)

The writer of Galatians is absolutely correct. Nobody has ever been justified by works. It has always been by grace through faith (in the finished work of Jesus on the cross.) He is the "Lamb slain from the foundation of the earth. Sadly, Andy Stanley is not relevant.

For the Christian believer, there is a higher law than the ten commandants, ... it is the law of love. When you keep the law of love, you fulfill all of the ten. "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets" (Matthew 22:37-40).

Galatians 5:13–18: "For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, 'you shall love your neighbor as yourself.' But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. . . . If you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law."

Romans 13:8-10 New International Version (NIV)
8 Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. 9 The commandments, "You shall not commit adultery," "You shall not murder," "You shall not steal," "You shall not covet,"[a] and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: "Love your neighbor as yourself."[b] 10 Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

Yet, you cant communicate that we should jettison the OT as Stanley is doing and to so many thousands of people that who knows what or if they have had any bible study in their lives.

I'm not surprised. I know people who boast that they are "NT BELIEVERS" and discard the OT easy.

    it's heartbreaking..

give up our history and root and where we're shown not only why we need a savior, but how we tell it's Him.

It's the OT that has the Psalms, a guide to be the greatest worshipper.

Not to mention the OT was all the early church had and therefore flowing through the NT.

I remember going to Northpoint once about 15 years ago -- a cold, cold place (in the Spirit).

Andy Stanley is a false teacher and is on the verge of "preaching another Jesus."
The Lord consistently upheld all of the commandments.
Jesus never changed His mind about adhering to, and keeping all 10 commandments.
If He said it 2000 years ago,it's still just as relevant for believers to do what He said back then(Heb 13:8).
I guess Mr. Stanley forgot what Jesus said in Revelation.
He identifies Believers as those "who keep the commandments of God"(Rev 12:17).
Furthermore, the last book of Revelation records, " Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may enter through the gates into the city" (Rev 22:14).
If pastor Stanley researched his bible, he would find all 10 commandments found in the O.T. are also clearly referenced in the N.T.
In my book, it's heresy to reject and throw out all 39 books of the Old Testament which seems to be the case that Rev. Stanley wants to do if he hasn't already done so.
Let me close this out by saying we are not saved by obedience to Old Covenant law. We are saved by God's grace and the great sacrifice of Jesus on the cross and by our faith in His precious blood that was shed for you and I. I believe it's a worthy statement to say that the law remains in our lives as a revelation of God's will, though, as a guide to what pleases God and what is best for our lives in this world.
If you put God First, you have Him at Last.
