Thread: Bethel's Pastor Johnson coming under fire for abortion meme

Worship Pastor Brian Johnson of Bethel Worship Church of Redding, CA has come under fire for a now deleted social media post. He shared a meme comparing Planned Parenthood to the KKK WITH A NOOSE to illustrate the point.

He deleted the post and his entire Instagram account after pushback by those who felt offended by the comparison.

First of all, the post is actually a repost that was originally done by a black man. Brian was just reposting it. So the author is a black man.

I've been following that on Instagram since I follow him and Bill both on there. Brian posted originally and got a lot of undeserved flack because many thought it was 'insensitive' and don't have the critical thinking to realize the quote isn't trying to diminish the KKK, but make a point of comparison how so many think abortion is OK but many more blacks are murdered through abortion than the KKK ever killed.

When his dad Bill saw the flack, he reposted it and got the same flack. Bill posted this today on his Instagram account in response to him and Brian both being blasted by many over it. He give the background behind the meme:

A few days ago I reposted a meme created by a very courageous black man, Ryan Bomberger of the @radiancefoundation. He was conceived when his mother was raped. She made the challenging decision to not have an abortion. His story is worth telling. However, when I shared his story it brought unbelievable pain to people I really care about. I always do my best to honor and serve them, and this grieves me deeply. It was not my intention. As you can imagine we have received a lot of feedback about this and I am grateful. Please forgive me. Our black community is one of our greatest treasures as they continually make us better. In his meme Ryan drew a comparison between the KKK, who murdered many blacks simply because of their race, and Planned Parenthood, the primary provider of abortions. If comparing evil with evil were so we could decide which is the better of the two, this would be a horrific illustration, unreasonable in every way. Both are appalling. There is no lesser. I and everyone I know is rightfully outraged at the KKK; embarrassed that it is a part of American history. Anyone who reacts to me, or the meme because they think it’s an effort to lessen our disgust towards this disaster is rightfully angered. The KKK caused unimaginable pain and destruction to some of our nations greatest. But the intent of the meme was quite different, whether or not you agree with the method. The hangings of the KKK were public — an unforgettable act of hatred, evil, and cruelty at the highest possible level — targeting blacks. Abortion is done behind closed doors — targeting the unborn, including a great number of blacks. Perhaps if the pain and the torture of abortions were broadcast on reality TV the public would find it as disgusting as the KKK. And that was and is the point.

This was really much ado about nothing, and just another example of the over sensitivity of many, even in the body of Christ.

Just checked Brian's account. He definitely deleted it.

I was going to ask that, decided to delete.

First if you actually study history the KKK was started by Democrats to suppress and control the black population. Second Planned Parenthood started by Margaret Sanger was purposely created to destroy minorities mainly the black family.

The ministers work is also important and he should be trained, perhaps by the Federation as to our ideals and the goal that we hope to reach. We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members.

Not just an over sensitivity but the added and prevelant hyper vigilance to find an error that can be exploited. You know, the stuff that bitter people do.
