Disclaimer: I went to the same church as Dyson back in the 70's..and although I don't agree with some of the things he's said over the years, what he says here about racism and the Republican party makes sense. Of course I don't expect many here to agree with him, but PLEASE listen to the clip (it's just seven minutes) before providing meaningful feedback

We were better off with Obama than we would have been with McCain. I didn't vote for either one of them but at least with Obama we got a pretty stark look at the agenda being perpetrated, it was in the open. McCain had the same agenda, globalism, etc but hid it under the cloak of "patriotism". The guy is dangerous.

How so . By all accounts she was a very good governor

Nothing new here, it's the same stuff they (leftists) all say wrapped in the same predictable attempt to mask their vacuousness with poetry and prose .

At the end of the day you are kept wondering what exactly they want republicans to do since most police shootings of black Men happen in Democratic Party run jurisdictions with democratic mayors and sometimes black police chiefs. And of course the question is never asked as to why black communities need so much policing in the first place.

So perhaps FO should tell us exactly what policy descriptions Dyson wants from Republicans or how Republicans are relevant to this debate . For the most part most policy reforms in this issue can be done without Republican input so why doesn't Dyson take his proposals if he has any to Rahm Emmanuel in Chicago and other democratic strongholds instead of doing talk shows ?

Also per the claim that blacks are social conservatives whom vote politically liberal . Sorry the numbers don't bear that out if the number of unwed mothers and broken families and falling marriage rates are anything to go by . Granted many black people especially in the south go to church but collectively there is very little to suggest social conservatism In terms of social outcomes

Per the claim that racism is different from bigotry /prejudice. Granted there is an academic school of thought that make that distinction. But most people in every day life both left and right use the terms interchangeably so not really sure why Dyson would get on his high-horse to label non academics who fail to make the distinction ignorant

Also the claim that racism is an economic oppressive system that whites can only be guilty of is a convenient one for those who make left wing racial identity politics their stock in trade . To them the individual simply has no say in his future and is wholly an entirely a victim of "the System". The fact that there is no one called "the system" and it's all of us individuals who collectively make up "the system " is lost on them

    Late to this party.

    I watched the video.

I don't know this guy. I don't like the Catchy Phrase type of commenting. I don't like that he uses a huge broad brush. I'm glad the blonde called him on the "are all Reps racist"

I did appreciate he acknowledged that all people can be/are bigoted. I disagree with his definition of racist.

    I'll go with the dictionary:

    racĀ·ist
    ˈrāsəst
    noun
    1.
a person who shows or feels discrimination or prejudice against people of other races, or who believes that a particular race is superior to another.

synonyms: racial bigot, racialist, xenophobe, chauvinist, supremacist More

    adjective
    1.
showing or feeling discrimination or prejudice against people of other races, or believing that a particular race is superior to another.
It makes me really sad that in our country, right now, things have been boiled to "I hate Trump so I'll throw all kinds of nasty names at him"

and that, currently, almost everything has taken on a racial component.

I still remember, when I was a young girl, the goal was to be color blind. To see people for what their character is, so see beyond the melanin.

I'm not sure why we moved away from that..

Racism is a behavior, not a thought. I agree Femme, most of this stuff was cleaned up in Sixties, segregation, etc. now they are meandering into thought crime territory, totally bogus. Equal rights is no longer the agenda, they want to dictate.

I like how Starbucks did their sensitivity training and the professionally offended called it a "good first step". Nothing will appease them so put it all on ignore.

There are too many people out there now with degrees in "Racial studies", it's a business now. Get a nice pay check to be perpetually offended.

I'm not gonna get into a point-by-point debate with you BAP...it was just a 7 minute interview and Dyson has gone in depth on what he believes in other arenas...like I said I haven't agreed with him over the years on different things, but The View interview caught my eye, because he was asked to comment on a variety of different subjects in the news of late, and I haven't seen or heard him in a good while. Like I stated I assumed hardly anyone here would agree with him, but decided anyway to post the video just to see what response it would get. Now I know, and thanks to all who have posted so far.

The term 'racism' has really been watered down by overuse. What is mostly called racism today is really bigotry. But 'racism' is far more effective for those that use it than 'they're a bigot'.
