So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
I used to live next door to some "preppers", I went by one day and there were like 6 of them on the patio with gas masks on, it was during all the chit chat about Saddam having weapons of mass destruction. Strange bunch, thought invasion was imminent. Of course, they thought I was the odd one.
A few things that have shaped my perception of what might happen if there were an "event".
Reading up on how citizens handled the collapse of the Soviet Union. There was a blogger I don't recall who described his experience in great detail, how folks managed to get by when everything over there essentially broke down. Big takeaway... friends, keep them.
A hurricane that took down the grid for 10 days. No one acted poorly, no zombies or roving gangs. People were looking out for each other, I was actually surprised at how well things went.

Yes, extreme prepping can produce a false sense of security. I'd rather have faith in God then faith in a bunker, guns, and stock pile of survival food. I'm not saying it's wrong to prepare and have some emergency supplies on hand (at least 30 days). But if your trusting in what you have in your cellar and gun safe, your faith is resting in the wrong place and not totally dependent on God.
If you put God First, you have Him at Last.

Around here we have preppers. I have a friend that has a bugout bag and UTV on ready, at all times. He has a well armed and fully stocked bunker. He is level-headed and I trust him. What the lunatic moonbat fringe is frightened of are free citizens that will die rather than be oppressed. Then, there are those all across our area that are well-armed, peace loving Christians.

I'm not a prepper, but it certainly wouldn't help to have a nice cache of stuff in case anything happens, whether it's 'Apocolyptan' or not (even though I don't).
But if you have a big stash, don't let anybody know about it because if there is some horrible event, you will be the first to die if they know about it.

If you live in a neighborhood where all those around you aren't ready for the long haul to survive, how long do you think it would take them to figure out that you have supplies that they could use? What are you going to do, shoot to keep your stock pile from being taken? Or do what the bible says to do and share what you have with others who are in need? When the SHTF there will be a time of extreme hardship that is going to be difficult for the average American to imagine or comprehend. Those in other parts of the world have had to endure different types of intense scenarios for survival.
If you put God First, you have Him at Last.

I think most folks in South Florida are pretty much prepped for 30 days. I'm ten minutes to the Everglades, due West and ten minutes to the Ocean, due East, have a few canals within short walking distance so could probably get protein pretty easily. Not so worried about environment in terms of weather, water sources, etc, etc. If I were somewhere else I might re-think it.
Smitty brings up a good point, do you bug out, go hole up and play commando or do you roll up your sleeves and start rebuilding/helping/protecting others. If everyone bugged out I guess it would just be a matter of time before they turned on each other. The paranoid ethos most preppers carry is palpable, those are the last people I want to be around in a bad situation.

Stay indoors until everyone went crazy and blasted each other to smithereens and then walk outside and get all the leftover goodies
Our interior is mostly uninhabited so you can flee to the outback if things get bad

Aren't Mormons told to store enough food to last a year? I wonder what their 'directive' is...as in, are they supposed to share it with others or is it only for their own household. If something big did happen I suppose Utah would be a popular place to go. ;)
