    Pornography

It's a known fact that the life sucking tentacles of the pornography industry no longer just affects the godless, but those who are in ministry, and Christians in general find themselves struggling with this immoral epidemic. http://www.christianitytoday.com/new...ell-barna.html

My first marriage of 9 years ended in divorce. Of coarse, I was not saved during those years and drinking, drugs, and pornography played a major role in that marriage disintegrating. Shortly after that separation, I got saved in six months after my 30th birthday. I never went back to drinking and drugs, but did occasionally look at pornographic magazines. I knew it was sin, yet I struggled with this addiction (sin) for the next couple of years. Eventually, I did get deliverance and victory over pornography, and remarried. That was 25 years ago. My second wife died in 2004. I remarried in 2011. I shared all that to say this: "Pornography is a major problem both in society in general and among many Christians in particular. TV, DVD's and the internet have made it readily available to all who want it. Viewing pornographic material destroys marriages and promotes violence and crime against other human beings.

I want to emphasize that pornography is not merely a lustful pastime. It is actually a sensual activity that has devastating effects upon the individual, the family, and society at large. Clinical studies have produced scientific evidence that pornographic images actually alter the chemical structures of the human brain resulting in a crack-like cocaine addiction that is a contributor to rape, incest, pedophilia, and other forms of sexual assault. Pornography causes aggression because it destroys the natural relationships found between individuals. Long term involvement with it can foster a state of aggression known to eventually act out in the public arena.

Pornography produces a type of euphoria (heat, sexual excitability) that promotes men to sexual lust. Neurologists have documented that the right hemisphere of the brain transmits signals to the left hemisphere and vise-versa. Pornography has been shown to cause the brain to stop the proper transfer signals from one side of the brain to the other. This disrupts the neuropsychology of emotional reflexes that maintain control of the human thought process. Pornography is known to trigger the natural chemicals or drugs that the body produces such as testosterone, endorphins, and so forth, all at once. Over a period of time, these internal chemicals become as addictive as common street drugs. So, just like any other drug addiction, the person is driven consciously to seek more of their drug of choice (in this case pornographic material) to replicate the high intensity of chemical reactions in the brain.

There is also clear links between pornography and dysfunctional families. The reason for this connection is that it breaks the trust and intimacy found between couples. Suspicion, accusation, and argument replace any foundational stability that a married couple once enjoyed. God will judge the pornographers for the wickedness they have unleashed upon mankind. They are only concerned with the profit (money) from their corrupt material than with the effects of the material they are producing upon society.

So, how are Christians affected by the snare of pornography? Well, first of all, Scripture informs us that even Christians are not without sin (1Jn 1:8) and continually struggle with the flesh (Rm 7:19-20). Yet, Scripture warns us to "make no provision for the flesh (Rm 13:14). Believers who are caught in the web of pornography must understand in the end it only leads to evil. This addiction (sin) clearly corrupts the minds and natures of people. It become a blight that sidelines people's minds, hardens their hearts, and causes them to live in the flesh and in accordance with their old nature.

We live in a fallen world and to avoid all skin (fleshly observance) one would have to be removed from the world. Let me say it this way. Casual and unintended exposure to sexual images is not sin. But lusting after them is sin. Sexual temptations do not cause sin, but yielding to them does. It is not the first unintended glance that is the problem. It is the second one (and beyond), wherein one willfully entertains the image, that is sin.

The Christian who regularly views pornographic images and who seeks freedom must confess that pornography is a sin, and that he has sinned (1 Jn1:9, Ps 51:3-4). Be willing to repent as they turn to God and do those things that are right (Acts 26:20). Pray regularly for God's help. A holy life is not difficult; it is impossible---in our own strength. Jesus said, "Without Me you can do nothing" (Jn 15:5). Paul mentioned, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Phil 4:13). Prayer is a means by which we can tap into God's supernatural power to overcome sin. "How can a young man (or old) cleanse his way? By taking heed according to your word (Ps 119:9). Contant exposure to God's word is essential for holy living. We need to abide in it and let it abide in us (Jn 15:4, Col 3:16). Reading, meditating, acting upon, and memorizing God's word can arm us against evil. Seek out a person you can trust as an accountability partner. Christians are to encourage one another toward holiness and righteousness, and this can be done by a pastor or close friend who will pray for you to maintain sexual purity.

Whatever images one entertains with the eyes tend to influence one's life. Good images have a good effect, and corrupt images have a corrupting effect. The eyes are the gateway to the soul, and every person who desires good character needs to guard the gateway to their inner being. Sexual ideas and images planted in the mind tend to express themselves in actions that only the spiritually strong can resist. It is the responsibility of each morally responsible individual to control the gates of their minds and souls from the deadly sexual explicit images that plague our society. Pornography clearly is one of the works of the flesh (Gal 5:19-21) and thus contrary to the fruits of the Spirit (5:22-26). Our adversary, "the devil" or the slanderer, is a malicious enemy, out to trip us up and overwhelm believers with temptations and discouragement. Yet Paul said, we need to put off our old self (Eph 4:22, Col 3:5,9) and put on the new (Eph 4:23-24, Col 3:10), remembering, "But in all these things we overwhelming conquer through Him who loved us (Rm 8:37).
If you put God First, you have Him at Last.

With porn videos being available within ten seconds of searching on google, they have become the equivalent of having costless pot smoke available through a hose attached to a can on top of one's head to a lot of people. They change people's attitudes towards sex, women, relationships etc. And that is if they stay away from the really bad stuff which is about as available.

To many young people one is "normal" if one stays away from the bad stuff and doesn't watch porn excessively. It has become a bit like sex before marriage and people go "why not" or "so what".

As a unsaved teenager I was sexually immoral and when I heard the gospel this was one of the sins that I didn't want to give up.

After 12 months the Holy Spirit began to convict me it was time to accept Christ but I had a very strong awareness that I must also give up sexually immorality as part of my salvation.

I know it sounds strange in this modern day of how people accept Jesus but I had such a conviction that repentance of my sin went hand in hand with believing and accepting Christ.

I am so glad that was how God dealt with me because if I didn't have that conviction of sin I think I would of fallen back into my old lifestyle.

I don't know why but it seems many modern salvations do not have a deep repentance when they accept Christ.

With me salvation started with a very fundamental belief when I was 17. Ridding myself of various sins took a while but the deep belief gave that momentum. The baptism in the Holy Spirit that I received half a year later added to that momentum. One could say that I got saved with an intention of living accordingly. I believe that that is what happens with people some times, including those that weren't that bad, like me.

Even on Facebook I get "friend" requests from nearly naked women that I don't know. In the early days of my being on FB I used to go look at their profile to see if it was a Christian woman but some of them (against FB rules BTW) would have pictures where they were pretty much buck naked. I learned the hard way to now just delete friend requests of this type BEFORE going to their profile.

So the fact that your profile says married doesn't help ?

Internet porn industry is huge, they target everyone. Lurking a few clicks way from those little "friend requests" is what they are selling. I'm sure FB knows who the players are behind those requests.

I get some of those, they are typically young but fully dressed women and I prefer to click on the profile to see what it is because I could be mistaken. In a larger profile picture it's easier to see the porn look. There is typically some info on the page about porn sites etc.

If you are on FB you get those. Thing is, FB is likely receiving payment for click-thrus to the porn sites.

Who knows what FB is up to. They sell a lot of market information, that is for sure.
