    Don't mess with the River!

TAMPA, Fla. - Leaders of a Tampa church say a controversial sign warning that the property is not a gun-free zone helps protect the congregation.

Signs are posted outside every public entrance at River at Tampa Bay Church in east Tampa.

"WE ARE HEAVILY ARMED - ANY ATTEMPT WILL BE DEALT WITH DEADLY FORCE - YES WE ARE A CHURCH AND WE WILL PROTECT OUR PEOPLE," the sign reads.

The church's well-known senior pastor, Rodney Howard-Browne, posted the year-old sign to his Instagram page just days after the tragedy in Sutherland Springs, Texas.

We were at a conference at the River three years ago. Lots of in-house security and there was also a uniformed police officer in the meetings on a couple of nights.
If you put God First, you have Him at Last.

Wise as serpents, harmless as doves...be prepared and you are far less likely to need to act...

Just like houses with dogs are robbed less than those without....

Sometimes I think I have a different understanding of the gospel than a lot of Christians. For instance, does this church believe in God's divine protection or don't they? How is advertising that they rely on the arm of the flesh (guns) any sort of witness to the power of God?

I remember my pastor going to Pakistan to minister. During the day he had the protection of security with AK-47s. I wasn't there, but if that is what the culture respects as an understood concept of security, so be it. I don't think it is inherently anti-biblical.
