Every pastor knows if they get interviewed by secular media that the 2 big questions are about homosexuality and abortion...it's a no brainer

Lentz isn't dumb and has previously given round about answers about gays in his church

Imo he knew what would happen on The View and had worked out his nebulous answer so it wouldn't offend but he could still come across as a relevant hipster dude....He basically did not want to say abortion is a sin and murder

It seems a bit like Joel Osteen and megachurches, they feel a need not to offend. It could have something to do with having too much media attention.

I'm not sure why everyone gets to criticize Carl Lentz but once Joel Osteen is mentioned you react, why is that ?

I like Joel, like listening to him, etc, but he does evade direct answers to those same questions himself. Or at least he did at one time. It's well documented on Youtube.

First, why does a pastor even need to go on secular shows like "The View" unless God sends them there. Usually when God sends a man of God to a show like that the minister is going to be bold and will take a stance against sin while expressings God's love to the sinner. He will call for repentance.

I guarantee you that if I had been on that show, unless it was live, they may not have aired the episode that I was on - unless they wanted to do it to show how intolerant us Christians are.

That's a problem, secular journalists can be incredibly good at angling interviews to make the subject look bad, they employ the fact that they are in charge of the show to work people into a corner. It could be compared to Jesus arguing with Roman authorities, he didn't do that until they arrested him. Some situations are better avoided. Or toned down.

"So, where do you stand on social issues that young people are particularly passionate about, like gay marriage [and] abortion? Like, how do you address those types of things?"

"I think our job is still to help people—not necessarily change how they think—but try to point them to what God has said, what we believe the Bible [has] to say," Lentz replied. "We believe that God is good, that God loves everybody, that Jesus was here to set people free, and that's still the good news of the gospel."
He is completely WRONG! ON the contrary every minister of God is supposed to change how people think. If he is not trying to change how people think then he is NOT preaching the gospel. The word "repentance" means to change how you THINK and ACT! The Word of God is meant to transform the minds of people (Rom. 12:1-2). That is the whole idea behind (the often misquoted) Isaiah 55:6-9. Verses 7 and 8 say:

Isa 55:7* Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.*
Isa 55:8* For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.*

2 Cor. 4:4 says that Satan BLINDS THE MINDS of men. Ephesians 4:18 says that the unregenerate man's thinking is DARKENED!!! For this man to claim that we are NOT to change people's thinking goes directly against the teaching of God's Word. This man either needs to get before God and get revelation of His Word or he needs to stop pastoring and misleading people.

You really think these 'leaders' would be smart enough to prepare answers to those kind of questions in advanced. But apparently not.
