Thread: The Threat of Progressive Christianity

    The Threat of Progressive Christianity

One of my FB friends posted a link to a blog by a woman who was raised as an evangelical Christian, but is now what would be called a progressive Christian. The article was mostly a hit-piece on the evangelical church. She says she's still okay with Jesus, but is obviously off in the ditch of liberalism. What shocked me was the number of my friend's FB friends who agreed with her in the comment section. Some of those friends are my friends too. Wow. It woke me up to the large number of Christians who perceive they have been so hurt by the church they just can't be a part of it anymore. To me, it seems like it might be part of the "great falling away."

I think we ought to be prepared to see a huge rise in the number of "progressive Christians" who are very touchy-feely about some of the hot potato issues in the church. All this time I've been more concerned about the rise of those who are atheistic secular humanists, but now I see the danger of those who use their woundedness as weapon against the conservative church.

Be careful with equating anti-Trump sentiments to any of that, there are too many people that see him as entirely his own phenomenon.

This is identified in those who believe the Bible is not the inerrant inspired only absolute truth....

and is followed by the desire to see the Constitution 'evolve'.

This belief embraces the concept of humanism..that man is essentially good and that the concept of sin and depravity are ancient religious myths that limit mankind by guilt and shame....if not at first it PROGRESSES in that direction...

Truth defined as 'shaming' or 'judging' and conviction as a false sense of guilt and judgement caused by this antiquated teaching among some Christians...

    You are wrong

Trump is irrelevant regarding my comment as I was aware of this problem before he became president.....the liberal progressive mindset started independently of Trump

Bookie, this is interesting. I almost posted this last week.

He looks at actual numbers and what the trends are...

Actually, It’s the Religious Left That’s Dying
Grace and truth cannot be separated without doing immeasurable harm to one or the other.
By Michael Brown Published on September 6, 2017

No sooner had the Nashville Statement on biblical sexuality been issued than we began to hear a common refrain from the left. “This is another sign that the religious right is dying! This statement represents the last gasp of the old, antiquated guard! It’s time to say good bye and good riddance! Let’s welcome the new thing the Spirit is doing!”

In fact, it’s the religious left that is dying. Those who uphold Scripture are seeing blessing and increase around the globe. Before I back up this statement, here’s what some “progressive” Christian leaders are saying....

This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity (futility) of their mind, having the understanding darkened...
    (Ephesians 4:17-18)

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly...
    (Psalm 1)

I wasn't judging what you were saying, I was merely pointing out something. Should I have said "be careful about" instead ? English nuances confuse me sometimes.

Something I have noticed over the last many years. Believers started to knock doctrine and think it wasn't important.
Using God is love scriptures it was more important to talk about feeling warm and fuzzy as God was not interested in 'cold' doctrine.

There is truth that we can become so doctrine focused we miss the love of God....but the church in many parts has now crossed the line and by lowering doctrine we can start to see the rotten fruit appear.

When you don't have biblical doctrine then you will believe anything about God and many christians have made God into the image they want.

If we forsake solid biblical doctrine we will believe any lie the devil promotes

BROAD is the way that leads to destruction Jesus said

It was your reference to Trump that is puzzling as I have no idea why you would bring Trump into the topic as nothing I said or the OP has any relevance to Trump

Many people see themselves as left wing in relation to Trump but not necessarily as liberals. Some people see him as extremely right wing in ways.
