Same Sex Marriage - It's getting hot

We are having a national vote soon and things are heating up. A real battle is taking place and verbal 'shots 'are being fired all over the place.

Obviously I don't agree with what the priest said about shooting gays but at least it could sort out which members will stand on the scriptures.

It could drive people to cease to stand on the scriptures out of disgust. If sorting out the 1 percent most faithful is the goal then having everyone say things like that will do the trick.

If people don't stand on the scriptures out of disgust because of what the priest said then you have to question their faith. There are many in the Orthodox church that need their beliefs challenged.

He was wrong but don't take it to the other side of the ditch

Peter swore and blasphemed publically the Son of God and 50 days later he was leading revival.

The priest admitted he went too far and hopefully he has learnt from this and can teach his church the right way to live the scriptures.

Peter wasn't born again when he did that. The priest's statement is extreme and very unwise. If it had been part of a technical discussion about the law of Moses or final judgment then okay. If related to current society at all - ridiculous.

I agree...if Christians portray a vengeful God beside the 'tolerant loving God' some could actually shift.

I shared this before but early in my faith I struggled with this...I knew some really kind and generous gay people and struggled to reconcile this issue. But the Holy Spirit had taught me nothing can be understood in the spirit through human reasoning so I asked God to reveal HIS true heart on the matter...I desired above all reasonings to KNOW HIM as He is...

Just a short time later I realized the Holy Spirit had changed me..I could now truly love the sinner and desire their true liberty in Christ...

There are a lot of Christians trying to choose sides...to figure out which side is right...and both sides have scripture...but the SAD thing is the TRUTH does not choose sides, it let's the Spirit reconcile the 2 within as absolute truth...

I can't say they 'depart the faith' by choosing one side or the other but I can say when Christians present this as a 2 sided issue they are BOTH wrong...the 3rd dimension of revelation is the TRUTH...so it is equally dangerous to choose to support gay marriage based on 'the love of God' or to promote hate or extermination or segregation...both are equally human and equally wrong...

A pentecostal pastor told his church and went public saying it was wrong for pastors to tell their congregation how to vote in the coming same sex marriage vote.

He said we don't tell members how to vote politically and the same should apply with same sex marriage
He doesn't have a problem if some of his members voted in favour of same sex marriage

Do you agree with this pastor or do you believe it is acceptable for pastors to tell the church to vote against same sex marriage?

IMO I don't have an issue with pastors telling their churches to vote against same sex marriage because it is a serious moral issue and a perversion against scripture

A pastor is to teach his or her people the truth about moral issues and influence their vote. I would certainly tell my people to vote against it but the choice would be left to them.

Telling them it is okay to vote for SSM is worse than not telling them anything. Wisdom should be applied when telling them what is the right thing to do. Just as one wouldn't spend an entire sermon, whether in church or on a street corner, elaborating on the depths of hell and expect people to be influenced positively by it, one shouldn't try to make as much noise as possible in order to bludgeon people into doing as told either.

I agree. I wouldn't hesitate a moment to tell a church they shouldn't vote for same sex marriage. And if any member of my congregation said they were gonna vote for it I would tell them to get saved. :)
