In any case, the letter of the scripture dictates that the husband can demand that the wife returns any time he feels sexually tempted. This is what happens when the letter is applied across the board and not just with your selected divorce scriptures.
Actually fasting and prayer is the intent of the separation ...and I stated why...when in the battle we lose sight of the heart of God...if we must separate to regain that we should...

I suppose the church needs to return to teaching the truth about marriage and divorce and then maybe people will be more prayerful and submissive to Holy Spirit before they marry..as the disciples said...wow...if that's how it is it's better to not marry! It would be far better if believers were raised and taught the truth and reach that conclusion...then stop relying on their lust and emotions to guide them in a mate choice..

I bet He didn't know what terrible enemies we would encounter when He told us to do the impossible and love our enemies and do good to them...I know He is looking down now and shaking His head saying, wow...I didn't realize they were going to encounter such terrible things when I told them that..even I can't help them with THAT..

There are no scenarios anyone can conjure up that God has not made provision for so when Jesus stated the only grounds was infidelity and even then it's the hardness of your heart He KNEW GOD is more than able to provide what we need in any of these scenarios without violating His will...

The simple fact is...we don't want to
Quest, if we apply your lettermindedness to all of scripture then anyone can demand that you hand over all your belongings to them. We've talked about that before and you always simply ignore the fact. But it is a fact. You simply are not being consistent in your approach to scripture. You have these pet scriptures that you treat infinitely lettermindedly but that is also as far as it goes.

Yea, she needs another man...not God..

But if you had known what this means, ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the guiltless.

That is God talking. He desires mercy rather than people sacrificing themselves.

So Jesus' own words and Paul's instructions are just pet scriptures....Ok At least I do have scriptures and don't base my belief on emotional responses and accusations of 'the letter vs the spirit'.

As for not being consistent I have been very consistent...and I know this because what I believe and why I believe it is on a solid foundation...it does not waver based on emotional scenarios or accusations...ask fuego...ask Krystan..my view has not changed one iota...

Quest, there are men present. You should not attempt to teach men, you know very well that the letter of scripture declares that as a command from the Lord. Now be silent.

Yes but what about the scripture that says that while your first husband remains alive you remain married to him ?

You still never clarified your stance on perpetual adultery which is what your continuing in your second marriage would be :)

Or do the scriptures apply to other people but not to you .. ??

Threads like this can get bogged down, especially when only one person is trying to defend a view while being swarmed by a group who passionately oppose that view...I am sure there were psots I did not respond to that may have given some the impression I am inconsistent...here is a Reader's Digest version...if you read through MY posts you will find I was not inconsistent...

In order to be clear to anyone reading through this thread this is my position on divorce..
    1. I maintain that Jesus words in Matthew and Paul’s instructions in 1 Corinthians state the only two reasons for divorce.

    2. Jesus states to divorce for infidelity is due to a hardening of the heart..

    3. Paul states if the unbeliever chooses to leave LET them..so the believer does not make this decision, does not divorce the unbeliever and does not act in such a way as to encourage them to leave.

    4. Often when a couple has been inconsistent in their relationship and damage is done the believer who settles the matter that divorce is not an option this places the decision of divorce in the other’s court meaning the committed one will not initiate or provoke.

    5. The committed one must devote themselves to the process of loving GOD first and completely in order for the LORD to enable them to love their ‘unlovable’ spouse and to enable them to truly forgive and open their wounded hardened heart back up.

    6. In the case of abuse and danger, scripture is silent so I believe that when one is weak spiritually they are the most vulnerable to give in to the temptation to divorce..this is the time to seek to renew the relationship with the Lord; the time to fast and pray and seek the heart and mind of God in order to renew their commitment to His will that they don’t give up on God to work a miracle in their marriage.

    7. Divorce does not guarantee safety so to say divorce was necessary to be safe is not true..only God’s wisdom and intervention can guarantee safety so the more committed we are to trust and obey HIM the MORE likely we are to see true deliverance in that situation.

    8. Scenarios and what-if’s don’t change what God’s word states regarding divorce…and He gave us the Holy Spirit to transform us so that His will and ways become our will and ways…divorce is taking the matter into our own hands and choosing a carnal resolution.

I believe this is consistent with both the SPIRIT and the LETTER of God's Word and is in keeping with His character and the character He desires for us. He wants us to be strong witnesses of His presence and love within as defined in the love chapter of Corinthians..love is patient, kind and does not seek it's own way.

The most difficult challenge for the believer is to be transformed to such a degree that they are transparent at home and out of it, that they demonstrate the character of God toward their spouse as well as their co-worker: that we can love our enemies in the world and unfortunately sometimes at home..Jesus stated that often one's enemies would be those of our own household.

Marry carefully…divorce is not a God thing, it was actually initiated THROUGH THE LAW that Colonel seems to think we should really avoid, to accommodate hardened men..…and He, God, has a very strong opinion about it. And like it or not God is a Father who does not care more about our happiness than our character, our transformation into HIS character..He is our Father but He is also our LORD..

    God bless,

Quest, THAT is NOT what I had in mind when I told you to be silent.
