Right...theirs are 'blanket rules' and yours are more true to scripture but neither they nor you are willing to encase yourself within the boundaries of scripture..

In addition to the two scriptures I posted I suggest that you read the following 1,000 times :

Psalm 119:160 NASB "The SUM of your Word is truth"

Not your selected scriptures taken according to the letter and then nothing else.

Problem #3. Because of problem # and Problem # 2 there actually IS NO Biblical standard for divorce within the church of God.
Sorry you are wrong.. Much of what you believe has been taught in the church for centuries. I grew up with exactly the same doctrine you teach drummed into me and all I observed it producing were a lot of Premature deaths , hardened hearts , abused spouses ,Abusive sppuses, Miserable and Bitter folks who turned against the Christian Faith altogether because of legalism

I would say the over 50% divorce rate in the church proves the church teaching is flippant on both marriage and divorce...

Catchy, I am sure you don't make your other decisions of right and wrong based on scenarios but rely on scripture to guide you. Why do otherwise with the issue of divorce?
Or perhaps it may be because people dont know the grace of God and the goodness of God which leads men to repentance ... If they don't know that they can be forgiven much then they have no desire to forgive much either hence they head for the exits at the slightest provocation

He counsels us on what scripture says and HOW scripture is applied..

Again I use the same example...Jesus told us to love our enemies...

Now based on your POV that means to the degree that you are able or unless they do such and such...

This is where the Holy Spirit comes in..HE reveals the heart of this..how we CAN love our enemies and why.

In the case of divorce when we choose to align with His stated will Holy Spirit is then invited to counsel us on HOW...to transform us so that we carry out His will from the heart...

The letter says stay and suffer if one must..
The Spirit says stay and trust ME to lead you..

The letter says love your enemies so at best you cannot HATE them
The Spirit says love your enemies and just as Jesus forgave them from the very cross they hung Him on I can enable you to love with that love.

The letter without the spirit does kill because we cannot truly keep it from the heart apart from HIM...but with Him we can chose God's way and Holy Spirit will give us what we need to succeed...

The letter tells us the will of God, the Spirit enables us to carry it out with sincerity of heart and power..

The letter is not as you say...this is what scripture says but it's optional...use your own judgment..

No...your implication that I don't know the word of truth does not make it so..it just means you don't agree with me...

Like I said when you remove the boundaries of scripture you have lawlessness...thus the very weak and sick body of Christ filled with broken families and lost children...

If you fail to provide materially it could lead to stealing , deception and so on and so forth ..Why should anyone be condemned to a life where they live under emotional pressure ?

These are all laid out in the scriptures and reflect the real issues that Millions face today in their marriages. You cannot Ignore those Issues on this topic

Blanket Rules can be made as it pertains to anything. There is always the potential for the grace of God to be used as an opportunity to indulge on any subject but Legalism which is the the Yeast of the Pharisees is not the answer ...

Legalists always saw Jesus as being far more lenient than what the legalistic would like and I am convinced that is what is happening here
Blanket rule simply means that noone can be condemned for employing the rule without consideration. With all things outside of the two specific scriptural rules, consideration has to be applied. And obedience to the Holy Spirit speaking directly into the individual situation. Employing the more general scriptural direction to get out of slavery if one has the opportunity to do so in relation to marriage takes consideration because there will be a lot of different circumstances and severity of circumstances that people will try to include under that rule. There is also the question of how much effort should go into saving the marriage and what one should be willing to endure indefinitely due to one or both parties not managing to work things out for the better.

That's not what I said, the scripture is about taking the SUM into consideration.

Staying married is the high road, you can forgive, reconcile anything with Christ involved but divorce is not the unpardonable sin.

I know a couple who had a marriage ministry to the divorced, very, very sweet people. They counseled those they ministered to stand for their marriage in any circumstance, some of the testimonies were incredible, a man or a woman standing for their marriage for decades, through re-marriages of their spouses to others, long term infidelity, long term abandonment, there were quite a few very long term standers and quite a few reconciliations. Waiting on the prodigal...how long do you do that?
