Hence, the reason for my underlined "if" in the first paragraph.

Exactly. Excellent explanation.

In context Jesus states that marriage is not an institution, it is a relationship...A huge theme of the book is unity and relationship...essentially what the Bible says, to love one another as He has loved us...to treat others as we want to be treated...within the scope of relationship without the hierarchy that REQUIRES submission...if human grasped and lived in true love relationship with one another there would be no need for hierarchy..
As expressed in the Trinity they are always in perfect unity...therefore there is no need for hierarchy...The Holy Spirit, Jesus..they never challenged the Father..they never disagree...so as Jesus stated in His payer, Father make them one as we re one...
So just as the body of Christ is a spiritual unity...He did not formulate the institution of 'church'. He called us into RELAIONSHIP...

I just ran across one of my favorite passages....in discussing suffering and pain humans endure and inflict He says, "I just can't imagine any final outcome that would justify all this." (speaking of the sufferings and wars and crimes and loss) Papa's response was, "Mackenzie, we're not justifying it. We are redeeming it."

In the 'garden' the Holy Spirit character hands Mack a poisonous branch..he asks if it would poison him had HS not handed it to him...HS says yes...but goes on to explain that being autonomous is lunacy. Freedom involves trust and obedience inside a relationship of love. So if you were not hearing my voice it would be wise to take the time to understand the nature of the plant."
So we know that the Spirit leading is our only 'safe place' :) is being stated...

I read the book (years ago) when it first came out, and found it to be a moving, inspirational and creative take on Wm. Paul Young's "spiritual journey" and his views on the Trinity...
The story is heart-wrenching and I found myself in tears on a number of occasions.
However, with that said...
I think it's a book/story for mature Christians, and NOT for babes in Christ or probably even the unsaved, because it's pretty "deep and speculative" theologically speaking.
One has to be able to discern and analyze some of the undertones of Young's perspective on God, Jesus and Holy Spirit, and I think it could cause some confusion and questions regarding the nature of God.
It was called heresy by many back then, and I'm sure there will be protests when the movie premieres, but a dear friend and I plan to go to lunch and then see it (for its entertainment value) on March 4th as a "Girl's Day Out" thingy.

Excellent POV, R828!
I think I was trying to explain to Jared way back then something similar to what you wrote (it's been so long ago, I really can't remember)

I am not legalistically saying christians should or should not watch The Shack - it's up to them
It will of course be very emotional and many enjoy that sort of thing and will find a message in that
I do believe the movie and book are deception because it portrays the trinity as 3 different humans ....this is very subtle deception
Scripture is very clear that Jesus is God manifested in the flesh - full stop. Anything that deviates from this is error no matter how emotional or warm and fuzzy it makes people feel.
Satan will do anything to distract from Jesus as the God in the flesh
Maybe believers need to see it so they can speak to those who want to accept the storyline as biblical and point them back to Jesus

I just watched the Trailer, and it seems it's a film about the death of a child. If that's the case, I probably won't be seeing it.
