minimum wage
I ran across this video a few minutes ago. In light of our pre-election discussion of Wal Mart, what do you guys think about this and what are your thoughts for a solution?
We are retired working class and each year our dollar buys less and less.
I'd like to hear all interested views.

one thing that wasn't addressed is that those jobs are not meant to be careers. They are meant to be introduction to working.
I kept thinking about how people won't attend classes, can't read, can't do any critical thinking and won't get a HS diploma. In the world we live in, it's almost a "MUST" to have a college degree let alone HS.
So, the govt steps in and we all cover the costs.

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
Labor is a market just like anything else, supply and demand. With the scarcity of jobs, lack of demand, the cost of that labor drops.
Poor wages is just the effect of what I call the parasite economy. Until we address the economic foundation which is rotten, no amount of "propping up" via minimum wage laws, etc. will offer any solutions.

I believe that the best companies are willing to "pay more" at every level for the best people. I recently had a fireside chat with a businessman from church who is a multiple-franchise owner of a well-known restaurant chain. He decided early in the game that he would pay his employees "more", give them profit-sharing and benefits that were above and beyond what the typical package was.
Result: High-performing locations and multi-generational families that stay because it's a good gig. Sometimes you just have to fire those penny-pinching bean-counting MBAs and run the place like a true entrepeneur who knows what a happy employee will do a lot for you.

unfortunately, he's the exception, not the rule..
and, yes, those companies will have lots and lots of people wanting to work for them.

I'm not really knowledgeable about business. I agree that minimum wage was intended to be entry level pay. I do give the young lady credit for having a job at all, some don't. Raising min. wage just sends prices up. I do like the idea of paying more for a quality employee. Sadly, kids today expect a trophy for just being on the team.

You'll pay twice as much for "cheap" labor when you factor in churn, re-training, pilfering, lost customers, etc.
Cheap labor can be very expensive!

And to add the spiritual dimension, we can believe God for those higher-paying jobs that are "hard to get Into" as well.

It would be a miracle if employers took a proper scriptural view towards those who labor for them.
