I understand government felt the need to step in to prevent discriminatory pay but the truth is it is not their job to tell businesses in the free market how much they should pay....in the free market consumers should drive this...The fact is they are not authorized to determine what a fair rate is....forcing higher rates forces higher prices and that cycle never ends...

We go to the grocery store and are shocked at the cost but then we fight for higher wages and restrictions that drive up those prices....

I know that is just part of the issue...sin and greed are another

Should it? Morally maybe but from a government intervention position?

You can have government meddling on both ends...

    Pick A or B

A.) Subsidizing Walmart workers with food stamps, housing assistance, Child care, etc.

B.) Raise minimum wage to a living standard.

I think if the subsidies went away the Walmarts would be forced via market mechanism to pay higher wages.

Neither , more like from a correlation between common sense and economic outcomes perspective.

Like Larry Elder would says If you don't want to live in poverty and minimum wage then don't have kids out of wedlock and go to school. I realize of course that there are nuances involved but in most cases it is avoidable.

Here we go again with the Walmart bashing ... '

Listening to some people talk you would think food stamps, housing assistance and Child care didnt exist before Walmart existed ... Gheesh

And no there is no economic model that exists that suggests that the subsidies going away would cause Walmart or anybody to pay higher wages , in fact the increased labor supply could actually cause wages to drop but what would also drop would be the COGS because there would be less basis for government taxation if the welfare benefits went away .

Also What exactly is a Living Wage ? Sounds to me like one of those phrases leftists throw around like "Fair Share" that ultimately have no meaning

I think this is a very important point. The problem I see is we are three generations into the sexual revolution. Unless young people have been raised in a really Godly environment, they can be totally clueless.

I have two grand nieces, sisters. Between the two of them they have five children. Neither has ever been married or even had a long term relationship.

You get low prices at walmart because you pay for their workforce via high taxes!

    Walmart is the welfare queen.

It's typical predator stuff, walmart is the trojan horse parked here to destroy American made goods and they get paid handsomely by the government to do so.

This is what I call argument by declaration

No offense John but you have been reading too many funny funny theories which is funny because in an earlier post you seemed to have a good grasp on supply and demand but when it comes to Walmart you suddenly flip

As you rightly noted it's cheaper on the long run to keep employees than to keep retraining new ones so why you seemingly throw that ecmo I. fact out of the window in your bid to discredit Walmart is what amuses me . Or do you think Walmart execs don't know what you know ?

For starters 50 million or so Americans are on food stamps Walmart has 1 million or so employees total so to lay welfare usage at walmarts doorstep is pretty laughable don't you think ?

As expected I didn't hear from you on what constitutes a living wage and how it's computed. (Most people whom use such terms can't , so you have plenty of company in that regard )

In any case quit parroting left wing talking points on walmart. They have been targeting walmart for unionization for eons hence this oft repeated charge about Walmart deliberately forcing people unto welfare rolls
