Events planned to show police officers support kick off Tuesday at 1 p.m.

Hosted by Law Enforcement and Supporters for Media Accountability hosts the first rally, beginning at 1 p.m. at the Tulsa County Courthouse.

LESMA, a national organization, founded in 2014 after the shooting death of Michael Brown by offcer Darren Wilson.

The local group coordinating Tuesday's rally is based in Spavinaw.

Coordinators say their message is clear: they support all police and law enforcement no matter what, including officer Betty Shelby.

Rally organizers told FOX23 they plan to keep the four-hour event peaceful.

Another rally gathers local and regional law enforcement officers at Hunter Park from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The "no matter what" statement gives me pause. Officer Shelby's erroneous actions caused the death of an unarmed human being. While I don't believe she should be vilified, neither should she be praised or celebrated.

Other than that, I agree the police should be honored from time to time. Particularly in this tension filled climate.
When your praise match your prayers, the answer will come.

Well, I definitely support supporting the police. The Betty Shelby part is a little iffy if indeed she did basically 'murder' the guy. But I don't think that was her intent per se, to murder a motorist just because he was black. So I somewhat understand the support of her as in if she was doing her job the way she thought she should and it resulted in this happening due to how she interpreted the circumstances.

I think she goofed. Possibly a ND. I was more disturbed by the fact that the officers lined up in a row as they were backing up - completely covered up the dashcam video. Not a police officer... but if he was running towards them I could understand. Helicopter video (which her husband was up there flying) makes it look bad for the officer.
