If you hit someone with anything that's enough to really cause pain, then more than likely it's going to bruise. So to me bruises are no sign of abuse. A cut could be going too far. A cut certainly sounds more serious, but I'd have to see it for myself. You don't know how much hyperbole is being used in these reports. But as you said, the streets with beat the down much more than this 'whipping' ever will. It may have woke them up. Unless of course the kids feel vindicated because they called the police on her and she was arrested. Heck, when I got out I'd beat them for calling the police.

I'm 63 years old and I still have a couple of bruises from whippings I got as a child/teenager...

While most of the beatings I got were (IMHO) undeserved - Grew up in a highly dysfunctional foster home - I had a lot of rage and rebellion in my heart (due to being abandoned by my Mother), and I was a passive aggressive type kid.

However, the fear of getting "whipped to death" kept me from doing a lot of things that teenage girls do that get them in trouble - And frankly, I'm glad I was absolutely terrified to drink, smoke, do drugs or have sex.

    So there's that.

I used to get red welts and streaks across my legs from the whipping. Dad used his belt only once in a while. But usually a switch from the tree or his hand. I never did feel that I did not deserve it. I at the time may have been upset at my Dad, but really i loved him and would never think he was wrong. I deserved it and probably more. I am now glad he did it and it made me a better man for it.

PS: That is why after all these years of persecution from (you know, the one who posts on here) I took it like a man. I have always highly respected her and I am better because I took it, whatever she dished out. After all I have always respected the Detroit Police.

My Dad used to beat me with a chainsaw running at maximum speed and my mum would stitch me back together during the night. They were a great team
