All he did was quote the Bible.
This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity (futility) of their mind, having the understanding darkened...
    (Ephesians 4:17-18)

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly...
    (Psalm 1)

I personally am against spanking as there are better ways to correct your child.... I can count on one hand the times I had to tap my kids. Each child had different temperaments and required different ways of correction. I was known for making my kids hold hands and walking everywhere together telling each other how much they loved each other. a couple of hours of this drove 'em crazy BUT they stopped whatever it was they were doing to each other.

well except for the time my daughter decked my oldest son with a roll of quarters.....

but i did warn him to leave her alone....

Yeah, we can't expect the Bible to be relevant to real life.

Then just feel free to respond directly to the scripture I quoted.

I do believe in corporal punishment, but usually it consists of a pop on the rear end to get someone to be obedient. Does that mean I still spank my 18 year old...no. Does that mean I've hardly EVER spanked my 13 year old....yes. Does that mean that my 3 year old gets spankings nearly everyday....yes.

You're right...each child is different. My oldest, and my youngest are very similar, in that they don't respond to a warning most of the time, or at least my oldest didn't when he was young. My middle child usually only has to be told something one time, and he corrects himself. Each child is different.

Because GodismyJudge said what he did, then I think I should state that I don't think that verse necessarily means to go out and beat your child until he/she is black and blue. I don't think that God looked down on my Dad's "discipline" and said, "Well done my good and faithful servant" (sorry...I have a few trigger points from baggage in my past...this is one)

I wish some people would figure that out.
"Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell." Proverbs‬ *23:13-14‬ *KJV‬‬

One or two beat downs in the life of an unruly, defiant child won't kill them. I'm still here.

In OT days some children were stoned for their actions against their parents. IJS
