Michael Bloomberg blasted the idea of campus "safe spaces" in his address to University of Michigan
Michael Bloomberg blasted the idea of campus "safe spaces" in his address to University of Michigan graduates over the weekend, saying, "The whole purpose of college is to learn how to deal with difficult situations, not to run away from them."
"The fact that some university boards and administrations now bow to pressure groups and shield students from these ideas through 'safe spaces,' 'code words' and 'trigger warnings,' is in my view a terrible mistake," the former New York City mayor said on Friday.
"A micro-aggression is exactly that – micro."
But in an almost ironic twist, Bloomberg was booed for his comments, Greta Van Susteren noted.
Kimberly Guilfoyle weighed in On the Record, saying that Bloomberg should have instead gotten "a standing ovation."
"How refreshing for someone to be able to be unafraid and courageous and go to a college campus and actually talk to them about things that they will need to succeed in life," said The Five co-host.
"They should say, 'Listen, I welcome the opportunity for you to come forward and tell me what you think about it.' And maybe you might learn and grow and actually change your mind about something. It's too bad."
