Thread: Racial Repentance

  1. #21
I read the story of a man of God (white) who was holding a divine healing service. He came to one older Black woman who was very sick. He asked the Lord, "Why is she that way?" The Lord told him, "Because of the things your people did to her. Apologize to her on behalf of the white race for the injustices." He obeyed the Lord and she said thank you and was miraculously healed.

Reminds me of "in humility consider others higher than yourselves". Not having committed atrocities doesn't qualify people for having fulfilled that verse.

Now this is the question I have for the whites that don't get it.

Why is it such a big deal, and why does it bother you so much? I know...YOU didn't commit atrocities and YOU didn't do anything to minorities, and you love all people, etc....but what if your actions actually bring healing to someone who has been deeply hurt by whites or whatever. What if your washing their feet and asking for forgiveness on behalf of what whites have done unleashes something stored up? I mean...wouldn't you do that, would you not humble yourself if it will bring healing?

I guess knowing the history of this country and the fact that blacks were still getting lynched in the 60s it just doesn't seem to be a big deal.

I think most white people forget that many people still alive suffered brutality that whites have never seen or been privy to. I bet Romans828 could tell us some terrible stories about what she has lived through. We simply aren't that far removed from a very sordid, brutal, history in terms of race relations.

That said, I do think that in today's climate, what with all the race hustling, safe spaces in colleges, and exploitations of non-events, twisting of stats, etc.....that it gets tiresome to deal with this, BUT, I'm certain that the main reason it was brought up at Azusa was specifically because now there is a race war that has come to the US (something I warned about 8 years ago). The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but they are might in God! We have to go about this fight with spiritual weapons, not carnal ones.

Sorry to go so long, didn't mean go, and I'm not directing any of my comments towards you Femme, except for the first paragraph. I just got to answering your question and I got a bit long-winded.

I do think it would have to be a Spirit led thing. I think if I, miss whitey-whitington, walked up to every black person on the street, and started apologizing it would get ugly QUICK! That said, if the Lord prompted me to walk up to someone and apologize then it would have a profound affect. But the same could be true for ANY affirmation/Word/encouragement/etc. that the Lord prompts you to give.

This goes without saying.....it's usually done, leader-to-leader.

This is the mentality I'm talking about, but that's ok.

I certainly could tell you about some experiences I've had with racism including the time back in the 60's, when I was refused service at the Woolworth's lunch counter, or how, even now, I either get ignored or followed very closely when I'm in certain "upscale" stores - BUT, I choose to walk in love, not dwell on other people's ignorance and hatred, and forget those things that are behind me and press on in Jesus name.

However, I have several friends who still carry that "unforgiveness chip" on their shoulders - and they're tongue-talking, spirit-filled, soul-winning Christians. They just can't shake the resentment, anger and pain of racism - They're uncomfortable around Caucasian people, and would rather not be bothered with them.

So, yeah, it's easy to say "get over it, and move on," when you've never walked a mile in the injured party's shoes.

Heck, I went through some of that stuff in the 80s and 90s

But like you, I decided never to let it affect me, make me bitter, or condemn a whole race of people based on the actions of a few. I have even rebuked fellow African-Americans PUBLICALLY for allowing themselves to get caught up in the foolishness of bitterness, especially those who claim to be Christians. Anyone who has been to our church web page and listened to our most recent audio series on social issues will see that (I have two teachings on racism there). I have even written a couple of blogs, one against the "Black Lives Matters" movement and another dealing with the Paula whats-her-name thing.

Yet, at the same time I can be perplexed by the callous and cold-hearted attitude of some of my white brothers and sisters who don't seem to have any sympathy for the hurts and pains that come from being denigrated due to someone's skin color.

Also, for the record, I have been invited to preach for a very good friend's church this Sunday. The pastor is white and the church is predominantly white. I have no intentions of addressing anything concerning race. They don't see me as a "black" man but a ma of God. On the other hand, it is unlikely that I will ever be invited back to some of the Black churches that I have ministered in because I don't preach black enough (I primarily "teach" which is my calling).

Therefore, I do not let the racists on either side of the aisle affect me.
