Thread: charismatic groupies...

  1. #11
Don't some ministries reserve good seating for a certain category of supporter? That reminds me of the scripture where the tatty person is asked to move so the finely dressed person can sit up close. I think that scenario is really tacky.

I think some of the groupie stuff is enthusiasm. Yes it can seem annoying but it's just one of those things.

I have never seen that, ever. The only reasonable thing I've ever seen is where the front row is reserved for the ministers (pastors with guest speakers or whatever). That is just common sensical as logistically speaking, it just makes sense.

I know people can get very gnarly about their seating, especially if it is a crowded conference and seating is limited. This was one thing that was very grating when we used to go to Morningstar conferences. I myself have gotten gnarly about seating there, because people were told that they would have to get a new seat at every session, but they'd leave their stuff on their seat in between sessions, not allowing anyone else to have their seat.

Again...I've seen IT ALL. I guess it's just not that big a deal to me....not enough to gripe about. People are just immature.....it's no more complicated than that.

The only time I've seen that (and my memory is a little faulty) is during Jakes's conferences...seating according to your support status. And I have no idea if that is still being done or not. During the Azusa conferences, those who were recognized pastors/evangelists/bishops/ etc. had reserved seating on the main floor. I don't recall if there was seating according to one's level of monetary "support".

Yeah, I wasn't exactly "saved" when "She is just a Groupie" came out (BTW, Bobby Nunn who sung that song was a close friend and worked along with Rick James who was one of my favorites). Didn't give my life to Christ until the summer of 1984 (I was 21). So though I wasn't all that wild before giving my life to Christ I was definitely a hardcore funkster

But still, everytime I hear the word "Groupie" that is the song that pops into my mind.

As far as I am concerned, this is a bunch of nonsense. Who Cares! Anyone knows that those who are strong supporters of a ministry today, may not be tomorrow.

this needs to be in the "HOT TOPIC" forum. This is a good discussion.

A certain artist wanted me to come to a crusade that they were singing at for a very high profile minister. I went to 3 events at 3 various times and locations.

I would have never gone if this person had not invited me. People lined up for several hours for the services. I would never stand outside in the hot sun for 8 hours to get into a service. Old people, people in the last stages of cancer, people with walkers etc. I got a VIP pass because I was a guest of a guest.

Anyhow, I am a witness that some ministries have VIP seating for top donors and wealthy people. I don't know if that's right or not? Especially when I saw elderly people outside for hours in the heat. Then they had to climb several stairs to their seats. It just didn't seem right to me. personally, I think the old people should have been given more respect.

There will always be people that are enamored with church celebrities. There will always be women who stalk male leaders, weirdos who are fixated on high profile people. I don't blame the leader for that, unless they help cause it and in some cases they do. Maybe it stroke their egos

This is a silly discussion. Are you kidding? People love to think that they have groupies. Ministers thrive on attention and the feeling of being on stage makes them think they are on Broadway. So they give their best performance. They work up the crowd- and then go for their billfolds. It is not even christian and has nothing to do with the gospel.
